The essentials
What is JLPT Test Preparation?
JLPT preparation in Singapore is focused coaching for the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (Nihongo Nōryoku Shiken), jointly administered worldwide by the Japan Foundation and Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES), and graded N5 (beginner) to N1 (advanced). In Singapore, the test is organised locally by the Japanese Cultural Society Singapore in coordination with the Japan Foundation. Tutors target the exact sections the JLPT tests — Language Knowledge (moji-goi vocabulary and bunpou grammar), Reading (dokkai) and Listening (choukai) — through level-specific drills, timed papers and proven exam strategy.

Good to know
Things parents ask us first
The JLPT has sectional minimum scores
Passing requires both an overall mark and a minimum score in each scored section. A strong reading score cannot rescue a failed listening section, so balanced preparation across Language Knowledge, Reading and Listening is essential.
Pick the level you can pass, then climb
There is no penalty for taking a lower level first. A confident N4 or N3 pass builds momentum and an official certificate, which is often more useful than a borderline attempt at a higher level.
Two sittings a year
The JLPT runs on a December and July cycle internationally. Working backwards from your chosen sitting determines whether a standard or intensive plan is realistic for your target level.
Vocabulary and kanji load scales sharply
The jump from N3 to N2, and N2 to N1, brings a steep increase in kanji and grammar volume. Underestimating this is the most common reason candidates run out of preparation time before the sitting.
