Why tutor while you study

Built for SUSS students

The hour after the last school bell

Weekday late afternoon is the hardest slot to fill in Singapore tuition, because it sits inside the working day of most tutors. A SUSS student whose own classes are stacked into the evening or the weekend can be at a dining table in Clementi at four, while a Primary 6 or Secondary 4 student is still in school gear and still awake enough to work. Tell us that block is yours and it is the first place we look when a matching request comes in.

Exam term concentrates the asking

Requests for extra hours arrive in waves, and the largest wave breaks when a cohort reaches its major papers — PSLE in the primary years, O-Level and A-Level further up. Families frequently want a defined run of weeks that closes when the last paper is done. A SUSS learner who can carry an intensive block through one term and then step back fits that request cleanly. Agree the end date at the start and everyone plans around it; the arrangement we turn down is the tutor who drifts off in week six.

You have already sat deadlines that counted

Studying part-time while working means you have kept a syllabus moving through months with no spare hours in them. That is the first skill a student loses in the run-up to a major exam: pacing, triage, deciding what to revise on a Tuesday with three subjects behind. A SUSS tutor teaches it from experience, and Economics and English candidates hear the difference when the person marking their essay has written under real pressure.

Clementi Road first, then the estates around it

The campus sits on Clementi Road, inside an arc of Clementi, Dover, West Coast, Bukit Batok and Jurong where families are looking for someone close by. A four o'clock lesson in West Coast and your own seven o'clock class on campus fit inside the same trip, and the evening stays yours while the travel stays one journey.

Questions

Tutoring as an SUSS student — FAQ

Which hours are you actually short of?

Weekday late afternoon, roughly from the end of school until dinner, and weekend daytime. Weekday evenings are the slot most tutors can already offer, so someone free at four is matched faster than someone free only at eight. Small caseloads are welcome — one steady weekly student who stays two or three terms is worth more to a family than five bookings that start getting cancelled. Tell us your real ceiling when you apply and we match inside it.

Can I take a student only for the run-up to an exam and stop when the papers are over?

Say so at application and we match you against that shape. Plenty of families want exactly a fixed run — the weeks before PSLE, the term before O-Level — and an end date agreed up front makes planning easy on both sides. The damage comes from a tutor who commits for a year and disappears in week six, so name the shorter commitment honestly and it will be taken at face value.

My SUSS classes are in the evening and my employer owns my day. What is left for me?

Weekend daytime, and online lessons on the evenings your own class does not sit. Saturday and Sunday mornings are already the slots many families prefer for primary work and PSLE revision, because a child works better before a whole day has been spent. If your semester timetable moves, tell us and we re-match you; carrying a clash quietly helps nobody.

I am in my forties and sat my own O-Levels a long time ago. Does that count against me?

Parents of secondary and JC students are often wary of a tutor two years past the exam themselves, so your age reads as reassurance here. The condition is that you re-read the current MOE syllabus for your subject before the first lesson. Papers, formats and weightings have moved since your cohort, and a tutor teaching the version they remember gets caught out by the first past paper the student brings.

Does Eduprime work with SUSS, or check anything with the university?

Neither. Eduprime holds no partnership, affiliation or endorsement from SUSS, and this page is run by Eduprime alone. You apply as an individual; we verify your own academic record and identity; your standing with SUSS stays between you and SUSS. If your programme, your employer or any bond you hold limits outside paid work, checking that is yours to do before you take students.

My degree is in social sciences. Which subjects can I realistically take?

Economics and English sit closest to most SUSS programmes, and both reward an adult reader who has argued in writing where the stakes were real. Primary Mathematics and PSLE preparation are open where your own numeracy is solid, since that work rests mostly on method, presentation and exam habit. We ask about subject confidence directly at application, and a short list you can defend beats a long one you are guessing at.
