Frequently asked
About O-Level in Singapore
What is the GCE O-Level in Singapore?
The O-Level is the end-of-Secondary-4 (or Secondary-5 for N-stream progression) national exam graded A1–F9. The L1R5 or L1R4 aggregate decides admission to Junior College, Polytechnic and Millennia Institute.
How is L1R5 calculated for JC admission?
L1R5 = English (L1) + best 5 relevant subjects (R5) drawn from at least one Humanities, one Math/Science and other subjects. Lower aggregate is better; top JCs typically require an L1R5 of 6–10.
When is the O-Level held?
Written papers run from August to November, with Oral and Practical components in July–August. Results are released by SEAB in mid-January the following year.
How many subjects do most O-Level students sit?
Most students sit 7–9 subjects: English, Math, Mother Tongue, two Sciences, one Humanities (with Social Studies as a core) and electives like Additional Math, Literature or a third Science.
When should O-Level tuition start?
Most Eduprime families start in Secondary 3 — the first year of upper-secondary content — and intensify in Secondary 4. Single-subject tuition is common for Additional Math, Physics, Chemistry and Pure Bio.
Does Eduprime cover school-based assessments too?
Yes. Tutors prepare students for both the national O-Level papers and school-based weighted assessments (WA1–WA3) which contribute to the year's school report.
