What is the Integrated Programme (IP) in Singapore?
The IP is a six-year through-train programme offered at selected schools (Raffles, Hwa Chong, ACS Independent and others). Students bypass the O-Level entirely and go straight to the A-Level or IB Diploma.
Is IP harder than the mainstream Secondary route?
IP curricula compress and enrich the Secondary content because no O-Level checkpoint forces a slowdown. Pacing is faster, projects are deeper, and Year 5–6 students are already at JC-equivalent depth.
What tuition do IP students usually need?
Most IP families start tuition at IP Year 3 or Year 4 where the curriculum begins to outpace the mainstream Secondary syllabus. Math, Chemistry and Physics are the most common subjects requested.
Can IP students switch out to take the O-Level?
Yes — IP schools allow students who are struggling to opt out at the end of Year 4 and sit the O-Level instead. Mainstream secondary schools then accept them for Year 5 if needed.
