Why tutor while you study

Built for NTU students

One trip out of campus can carry a whole evening

Leaving Yunnan Garden is the expensive part of an in-person assignment; the lesson itself is light. That is why we build western rounds. Boon Lay and Pioneer put Jurong West and Jurong East within one bus-and-train hop, and the North-South line carries on from Jurong East to Bukit Batok and Choa Chu Kang, so two or three families in that belt can share the single evening you spend off campus. Tell us which evenings you can give and we will keep your assignments inside one corridor.

In the back half of the year the student arrives holding evidence

Early in the school year a parent describes a worry. Once the papers have been sat and marked, the same parent hands you a script with a mark on it and the job turns concrete: this one bleeds method marks in kinematics, that one writes an Economics essay with the evaluation missing. Diagnosing from a marked script is the thing you already do to your own returned coursework, which is why mid-year is a sound moment to take a first assignment.

You were graded on your working, and so are they

In EEE, MSE, CBE and SPMS your marks came from a method someone else could follow: assumptions stated, steps shown, units carried to the end. H2 Physics, Chemistry and Maths scripts are marked on that same principle one level down, so an NTU student who has survived a problem-set culture can point at where the marks leak. We match to modules you have cleared, so structure and bonding goes to a materials student and vectors go to a maths major, while Economics and English assignments go to undergraduates whose own degree is built on argument.

NIE is on this campus, and the vocabulary shows

Student teachers on Dip Ed, PGDE and BA/BSc Ed tracks come to tuition already holding MOE syllabus documents, learning outcomes and marking rubrics, and having watched a real class pace a topic on the way to the year-end papers. Between practicum blocks they can take assignments at the levels their teaching subjects cover. Put your track and subjects on the form and we will route you there.

Questions

Tutoring as an NTU student — FAQ

The school year is already well advanced. Is now a sensible time to apply, or should I wait for the next intake?

Now works. Families reassess after every set of marked papers, so requests keep arriving through the second half of the year, and a share of them are short and pointed: a run of sessions to steady one topic before the year-end examinations. Starting mid-year also means you inherit a student whose weak spots are already documented, so your first lesson can open with a marked script sitting between the two of you.

My semester examinations land in the same weeks as my student's. How is that handled?

Openly, and early. Recess week and the end-of-semester examination period are the two stretches where NTU tutors ask for a pause or a lighter schedule, and most parents accept it, partly because their own child is sitting WA and SA papers in the same months. Say it before you accept the assignment and we will set that expectation with the family up front. The long vacation runs the other way: December and the May-to-July stretch are when families book holiday intensives, so tutors on special term or staying in hall over the break can add hours.

Between lectures, labs and the trip off campus, when do lessons actually happen?

After school, which is the part that fits. Primary and secondary tuition sits on weekday evenings from around five and across the weekend, outside the lecture-lab-tutorial block that fills an NTU weekday, so the gap you have between a morning lecture and a four o'clock lab is rarely what a family is asking for. For in-person work the arithmetic is travel: a flat in Jurong West or Bukit Batok is a manageable trip from hall, while an eastern address is an evening spent commuting. Send us your timetable once add-drop settles, and take online slots for anything far. A booked study room and a stable connection let you teach a family in Punggol or Pasir Ris from campus.

I hold a scholarship or a research stipend as an NTU postgraduate. Can I tutor?

Check your own award terms and your pass conditions before you accept anything. That responsibility sits with you, and the people who can answer it are your school and the university's student services. Research awards commonly limit outside work or require a supervisor's consent, and international students hold pass conditions that govern paid work in Singapore. We ask every applicant to confirm they are clear to work. Eduprime is an independent tuition provider with no affiliation to NTU, so we can neither grant that permission nor interpret it on your behalf.

I know the content cold and I have never taught. What does a first assignment look like at this point in the year?

One secondary or JC student, once or twice a week, working through the topical papers and past-year prelims their school already sets. Joining now, most of your early sessions begin from a marked paper: read where the method broke, rebuild it, mark the next attempt, then tell the parent in plain language what moved. Deep subject knowledge is the hard half and you have it. The rhythm of teaching a single student is learnable inside a month, and NIE-trained tutors in our pool tend to start a step ahead on that.
