Chemistry Tutor — O-Level 6092 & A-Level H1/H2
Most Chemistry grades in Singapore are lost long before organic chemistry starts. They are lost at the mole. We are hiring tutors willing to go back there and rebuild it.

Eduprime is hiring Chemistry tutors for O-Level (6092) and A-Level H1/H2 (9476). The students who come to us are rarely lazy — most of them are carrying a stoichiometry gap from Sec 3 that every later topic quietly compounds. Mole ratios that were never secure make limiting reagent work guesswork, which makes titration arithmetic guesswork, which makes energetics and equilibrium calculations unreadable. We want tutors who diagnose that and go back to fix it, rather than drilling ten-year-series papers over a foundation that will not hold. From there the syllabus opens out: qualitative analysis and the exact phrasing that earns the observation mark, titration technique and the arithmetic that follows it, and organic mechanisms taught as electron movement with curly arrows drawn the way the examiner expects to see them — tail on the electron source, head on where the pair goes. Lessons are one-to-one or in small groups, at the family's home or online. We match you by level and neighbourhood, and you are paid hourly in SGD, reliably.
What we back you to do in the back half of the year
- A marked prelim script tells you more than any diagnostic worksheet, and the marks are rarely lost where the family thinks they are. A J2 who revised equilibrium properly still drops the Kc question on the arithmetic sitting underneath it; a Sec 4 who can recite the qualitative analysis table still loses the observation mark on wording. We back tutors who read the script line by line before planning a single lesson, and we do not judge you by how many past papers you got through.
- Organic chemistry sits late in both syllabuses, so schools often reach it with the least room left in the year. You are backed to keep teaching mechanisms as electron movement even where memorised reagent-and-condition cards would look faster. A student who can push arrows through nucleophilic substitution can meet an unfamiliar synthesis on the paper; a student holding cards is stranded the moment the question changes shape.
- Practical work is the part a student cannot rehearse at home, so it is the part that quietly gets postponed. Tutors who can walk a candidate through a qualitative analysis sequence on paper, or take a planning question apart into variables, controls and safety reasoning, get first call on the assignments where that decides the grade. We treat it as a paid specialism.
- NIE-trained tutors and MOE ex-teachers sit at the upper end of our range, because knowing how a 6092 or 9476 script is actually marked changes what you do with a student's last paper. Whatever your background, the load stays yours to set — some of our chemistry tutors hold two assignments a week beside full-time work, others build a full timetable across several neighbourhoods.
The role
Inside a chemistry lesson here
- Diagnose where the quantitative chain actually broke — moles, concentration, limiting reagent, percentage yield — and rebuild it before moving forward, even if that means going two years back in the syllabus.
- Teach qualitative analysis as language as well as chemistry: students must write what they saw, not what they concluded. 'White precipitate, soluble in excess aqueous sodium hydroxide' earns the observation mark; 'it's aluminium' does not.
- Drill titration properly — rough run then accurate runs, concordant readings, the reasoning behind rinsing the burette with the solution it will deliver — and then the mole arithmetic that hangs off the average titre.
- Teach organic mechanisms as electron movement. Nucleophilic substitution, electrophilic addition and addition-elimination should be reasoned through with correctly drawn curly arrows, rather than memorised as reagent-and-condition flashcards.
- Prepare H2 candidates for Paper 4, including the planning question, which rewards a candidate who has designed an experiment before rather than one who has only read about experiments. O-Level candidates need the equivalent work for Paper 3, where planning is also assessed.
- Hold repair and coverage together once the school has moved on without the student. A candidate can be sitting through electrochemistry while still unable to balance a half-equation, and the workable answer is both at the same time — enough of the current topic to survive the next class test, plus steady weekly work on the step that actually broke.
What we check before handing you a student
- Strong personal results in Chemistry at the level you want to teach — a good A-Level H2 grade as a minimum for O-Level work, and a degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, pharmacy, life sciences or medicine for A-Level work.
- Genuine command of the current syllabus, including the 2026 O-Level 6092 content structure and the A-Level H1/H2 requirements. If you last sat the paper some years ago, be ready to re-read the current specification before your first lesson.
- Comfort with the practical side. You should be able to work through a qualitative analysis table without looking it up, and explain a planning question's variables, controls and safety reasoning clearly.
- Patience with the unglamorous parts. A tutor who resents spending three sessions on mole calculations because they would rather be teaching organic synthesis is the wrong fit for most of our students.
- Reliability with schedules, and willingness either to travel to the family's home or to run a stable online setup with a shared writing surface — mechanisms and working cannot be taught by voice alone.
Pay
How the range is set
S$40 – S$100 per hour
S$40 – S$100 per hour, paid hourly in SGD as flexible part-time contract work. Level sets the floor and capability lifts it: O-Level 6092 one-to-one sits at the lower and middle of the range, H1 and H2 assignments sit higher, and higher again where you can coach Paper 4 practical technique and the planning question. NIE-trained tutors and MOE ex-teachers are preferred and earn at the upper end. The rate is stated with the assignment, so you know what the hour pays before you commit to a family.
How it works
From the contact form to your first diagnostic hour
- 01
Send us your application
Apply through the contact form on this site. Name the levels you can carry — O-Level 6092, H1, H2 — and say where your strength actually sits: organic mechanisms, physical chemistry calculations, or the practical and planning side.
- 02
We verify, and we ask you to mark something
Our team checks your background and confirms every subject and level you listed. For Chemistry we usually put one student answer in front of you — an observation written as a conclusion, or a mechanism with the arrows drawn backwards — and ask what you would write on it. How a tutor marks tells us more than a list of past assignments.
- 03
You see the assignment before you say yes
When something fits, we send you its shape: level and syllabus code, what the last marked paper showed, whether the family wants a foundation rebuilt or precision sharpened for a higher grade, the weekly slot, the hourly rate, and where it sits — near you, or online. Declining costs you nothing here; a tutor stretched past their ceiling shows up in the student's next paper.
- 04
Open with a diagnostic hour
Spend the first session finding where the quantitative chain broke, and build the plan on what you found there. Tell the family plainly what is moving and what is holding, and tell us early when a student needs more hours or a different approach. Our team stays reachable for schedule changes, payment questions and support when a student's needs shift mid-year.

What tutors ask us before the first assignment
A family wants to start with much of the syllabus already behind them. Is that worth taking?
Usually yes, once someone scopes it out loud. In a short run-in the marks that move are the recoverable ones: observation wording, units and significant figures, arrows drawn the right way round, the arithmetic step that follows the average titre. Rebuilding two years of stoichiometry in a handful of weeks is something we will stop a tutor from promising to a family. Say what is reachable in the time there is, and we will stand behind that conversation.
Can I teach only O-Level Chemistry, or only A-Level?
Either, and we would rather you were precise about it. H2 asks for reasoning across kinetics, equilibrium and multi-step organic synthesis that runs well past 6092. Register the ceiling you actually hold today; widening it later, once you have re-read the current specification, is a conversation with us and carries no penalty.
Do I need to be able to run practical sessions?
No school laboratory comes with this work. The marks live on the written and procedural side: qualitative analysis observations in their exact phrasing, titration method and concordant readings, and for H2 candidates the planning question in Paper 4. A student can rehearse the writing at your table while the bench itself stays out of reach, and tutors who drive that rehearsal well pick up more assignments.
Will I be asked to teach Physics or Biology as well?
Only where you have registered for it. Science tutors in Singapore are routinely pushed into combined-science assignments they never signed up for. We verify subject by subject, so a Chemistry-only registration receives Chemistry-only offers, and a combined-science assignment reaches you as a separate question you are free to answer with a no.
What if the student's real difficulty turns out to be arithmetic?
It surfaces constantly. The mole is a proportion problem before it is a chemical one, and shaky rearrangement comes back in pH, Kc and rate calculations. Rebuild the number work inside the chemistry context — proportion on a titration, logs on a pH question — and count that as teaching the subject. Nobody here will push you to skip it to keep pace with the school.
I am a full-time undergraduate. Can I take assignments?
Yes, where your own Chemistry results are strong and you can hold a fixed weekly slot through the school year. Undergraduates in chemistry, chemical engineering, pharmacy and medicine often teach O-Level 6092 well, since the syllabus is still fresh in their hands. A-Level assignments usually go to graduates and to NIE-trained or ex-MOE tutors.
