Biology tutor jobs in Central Singapore exist for one kind of student, the one a Biology paper punishes for half-explaining. The facts may be there, yet the answer skips a step in the process, uses a loose word where a precise term was needed, or freezes on an organism the textbook never mentioned. Eduprime is recruiting Biology tutors who can fix that, sitting beside the student in their own home. Central Singapore gives this work unusual range. Around Bukit Timah, the junior colleges and Integrated Programme schools keep H2 Biology among the steady subject asks, and IP students reach that content without sitting the O-Level. In Novena, Toa Payoh, Queenstown, Geylang, Bukit Merah and Marine Parade, secondary students taking the pure sciences ask for Biology help, since they carry it beside Chemistry and Physics. Once you join, we pair you with students whose level, estate and weekly schedule line up with yours.

Getting around Central Singapore

  • Red-line stations from Newton up to Novena, Toa Payoh, Braddell and Bishan put the Thomson-corridor estates a few stops from each other, which makes two homes on one trip realistic.
  • From Bishan, the Circle Line heads south via Botanic Gardens and Farrer Road on its way to Buona Vista, while Downtown Line stops at Tan Kah Kee, Sixth Avenue and King Albert Park put Bukit Timah students within easy reach.
  • Heading west from Aljunied and Kallang, the green East-West Line passes Tiong Bahru and Redhill before Queenstown, and brown-line Thomson-East Coast stations at Tanjong Katong and Marine Terrace now serve the Marine Parade estate.
  • Neighbouring towns make back-to-back lessons practical: Novena with Toa Payoh, Bukit Merah with Queenstown, or Geylang with Kallang in the same afternoon or evening.
  • Across the region, junior college enquiries run heaviest from March through the mid-year promotional exams, so it helps to have your H2 availability set early in the year.

The role

What you will do

  • Plan each lesson around the student's school topics, upcoming tests and their most recent marked work.
  • Teach cells, transport, enzymes, nutrition, homeostasis, genetics and ecology until the student can walk through each process step by step in exam language.
  • Practise structured and free-response questions against the mark allocation, so every mark on offer gets its own point.
  • Work through data questions on unseen graphs and tables, including how to describe a trend and quote figures accurately.
  • Rehearse practical skills against the clock: annotated diagrams drawn to scale, clean results tables, and sensible comments on the method.
  • Leave a focused piece of homework after each session, and close every block of lessons by writing the student a brief summary of which processes are now secure and which still cost marks.

What we are looking for

  • A life-science degree, finished or under way: biology, biomedical science, medicine, pharmacy and similar fields all count. A strong A-Level Biology result is enough for O-Level students.
  • Confident command of the syllabus you teach: O-Level Biology (6093), A-Level H1 or H2 Biology (H2 is syllabus 9744), or school-set IP materials.
  • Clear spoken and written English, with the patience to explain the same idea a second and third way.
  • Dependable journeys to the central estates you select, with lessons that start on time week after week.
  • Prior tutoring helps. First-time tutors with strong subject command are welcome to apply.

Where you sit in the band depends on the level you teach and the experience you bring. The rate is agreed before you accept an assignment and paid on schedule.

Who can take home assignments

Home tuition in Singapore is open to Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and holders of a valid pass that allows this work. We check your eligibility before your first lesson. Serving MOE teachers need MOE approval before taking paid tuition. Lessons run at the learner's home or online, and online lessons are taught from Singapore.

How it works

From application to your first lesson

  1. 01

    Apply on this page

Tell us which Biology levels you teach, which central towns you can reach and when you are free each week.

  2. 02

    Create your educator account

Next, register in our educator app and fill in your profile: syllabus, levels, areas and availability. This is the account we use to send you lesson offers.

  3. 03

    Get matched

Whenever a Central Singapore student requests Biology at one of your levels, the offer comes to you with the level, town and lesson times. Take up the ones that suit you.

  4. 04

    Teach, and widen your reach

We check your eligibility before your first lesson, then you begin teaching at the student's address. Your educator account also opens the opportunity to teach online, with students in Singapore and, as intake grows, in other countries, each offer depending on how many learners ask for Biology at your level.

Osmosis, genetic crosses and command words: the Biology marks Central students drop, and how you win them back

Most Biology students you meet already know a good deal of content. Marks slip away in the gap between knowing a process and writing it the way an examiner rewards. A student can describe osmosis in conversation and still lose the point by forgetting to mention water potential, or by saying a cell bursts when the question is about a plant cell with a wall. Much of your work is tightening that language until it becomes habit.

Command words are a steady theme. Describe, explain, suggest and compare each ask for something different, and students often answer an explain question with a description of a graph. A useful routine is to take one past-style question, let the student answer cold, then mark it together line by line against what each word in the question demands.

Data handling deserves its own time. Reading a rate from a curve, quoting figures with units, spotting the variable that was held constant and judging whether a conclusion is supported are skills that carry across the whole paper, and they improve quickly with short, regular practice.

At A-Level the load grows. Students juggle cell signalling, the detail of photosynthesis and respiration, inheritance with chi-squared testing, and longer free-response answers that must be organised under pressure. Here you help them build clear outlines, link topics across the syllabus, and keep diagrams labelled and purposeful.

  • Genetic crosses: insist on a full layout with parental genotypes, gametes and a labelled Punnett square every time.
  • Enzymes: practise explaining shape, active site and denaturation in precise terms.
  • Practical skills: plan an investigation aloud, naming variables, controls and how reliability is checked.

How the Biology year shapes your weekly lessons in Central Singapore homes

The school year gives your lessons a natural rhythm. Early terms are a good time to build foundations: you follow what the student is covering in class, fill gaps from the previous year and set up good note-taking and diagram habits while the pace is still gentle.

With mid-year papers dropped from the secondary calendar, the Biology checkpoints of the first half are the weighted assessments and common tests each school sets, and in the fortnight before one you move to timed questions on the chapters it will test. Afterwards, a calm review of the marked scripts is one of the most useful lessons you can give: together you sort errors into content gaps, wording slips and careless misreadings, and plan the next stretch around them.

Once term three begins, Secondary Four and JC Two Biology students turn to their school prelims, and after those to the national papers. Lessons become more focused on full papers, marking schemes and stamina, and you agree with the learner which topics deserve the remaining time. Students in non-graduating years often use the end-of-year holidays to consolidate or to make an early start on the next level, so the work continues in a different shape.

Lesson slots are settled between you and each Biology student, so the number of sessions can rise before prelims and ease off in the holidays, always inside the hours you chose to offer.

Planning travel between Central towns so your timetable stays workable

Central Singapore is compact and densely served by rail, which makes it practical to see more than one learner on the same evening. The North-South, East-West, North-East, Circle, Downtown and Thomson-East Coast lines all run through the region, and the Circle Line in particular links many of its towns without a trip through the city centre.

A sensible approach is to group the towns you offer into clusters that sit close together. Bishan, Toa Payoh and Novena form one natural group on the northern side of the region. Queenstown, Bukit Merah and Bukit Timah sit together toward the west and south. Geylang, Kallang and Marine Parade lie on the eastern side. Offering one or two clusters keeps travel time down and makes it easier to place back-to-back lessons.

When you set up your profile, choose the areas you can reach comfortably after your other commitments, and leave a little slack between lessons for the stroll from an MRT exit to a Toa Payoh or Bishan block. Biology tutors often carry printed practice papers, a few marked scripts and perhaps diagram sheets, so a light, organised bag goes a long way on a busy evening.

If a learner later asks for a different tutor, Eduprime arranges the change at no cost to them, and you keep offering the areas and hours you chose.

Questions

Questions from Biology tutors

Which Biology levels are open in this intake?

O-Level Biology (6093) and A-Level H1 and H2 Biology, including Integrated Programme students who work toward H2 on school-set materials. Pick whichever of these you feel ready to teach.

Which towns does this posting cover?

Any of the nine Central towns, from Toa Payoh and Novena in the north of the region to Queenstown, Kallang and Marine Parade further south. You mark the towns you can reach, and we use them to decide which offers reach you.

Do I need tutoring experience?

There is no minimum. We look for command of the syllabus and the ability to explain it plainly. Many undergraduates in life sciences begin with secondary students and take on JC work as their confidence grows.

How is the pay set?

The hourly pay band for Biology is printed on this page and paid in SGD. The lesson details you receive with each offer let you decide before you accept.

Can I teach online as well as at home?

Yes. After setting up your educator account, you can switch on online availability as well. Online students may come from Singapore and, as intake grows, from other countries in the Eduprime network, depending on demand for Biology at your level.

What should I bring to a home lesson?

Your own practice questions for the topic in hand. Most students also have school worksheets and marked scripts, which are often the fastest way to see where marks are going.
