Become a tutor with Eduprime Singapore

Home English tutor jobs in Central Singapore cover the subject learners here need in the most different ways. One learner is a lower primary child who still guesses at long words; another is a secondary student whose compositions stall at the same band; a third is a pupil back from overseas preparing for the AEIS. We are hiring home English tutors who can meet each of these on its own terms. You teach one learner at a time, in their own home, in the Central towns you pick, at the levels you are strongest in. The form on this page comes first and your educator account second; after that, we put forward learners whose level, year and address fit what you offer.

Getting around Central Singapore

  • Bishan is where the North-South, Circle and Thomson-East Coast lines meet. From there, Toa Payoh and Novena sit a few stops south on the North-South Line, and a tutor living near any of those stations can often fit a second lesson into the same evening.
  • Since June 2024 the east coast side of Marine Parade has had its own Thomson-East Coast Line stops, so English students there who once meant a bus ride are now a train ride away.
  • Queenstown is served by Commonwealth and Dover on the green line and by one-north and Kent Ridge on the orange Circle Line. New flats around Stirling and Dawson have brought in many primary school pupils, and students returning from overseas ask for AEIS English preparation.
  • Geylang and Kallang share Circle Line stops such as Mountbatten, with Paya Lebar and Kallang on the East-West Line. Lower primary pupils around Paya Lebar Central account for many of the requests for early reading and creative writing.
  • Bukit Timah sits on the Downtown Line, and Newton and Stevens link it to Novena. Students here and around Thomson regularly add creative writing and debating to school English.

The role

What you will do

  • Sit beside a single pupil at their own dining table or study desk for every English lesson, across the Central towns and time slots you choose.
  • Work on phonics, decoding and fluent reading aloud with P1 to P3 children, and tell parents plainly when a reading gap is the real issue.
  • Grade each composition and situational writing task against the PSLE or O-Level band descriptors, and circle the one habit that is costing the most marks before the next draft.
  • Train comprehension, summary and editing against the time the paper allows.
  • Rehearse reading aloud and the stimulus-based conversation while the oral exam is still ahead.
  • Arrive on time for every booked lesson, and after each block of lessons write the student a brief account of the gains made and the skill targeted in the coming weeks, with a copy to the parent or guardian when the student is in primary school.

What we look for

  • A command of English grammar and usage deep enough to name the rule a student broke, in words a ten-year-old can follow.
  • Working knowledge of the paper you would teach: PSLE English with its writing, language use and comprehension, listening and oral components, or the secondary syllabus examined at O-Level as English Language 1184.
  • A strong A-Level, diploma or degree grade in English, Literature or Linguistics, or classroom and tuition years with local pupils that you can describe in detail.
  • Patience with young and reluctant readers, and warmth toward children who speak another language at home.
  • Punctual travel to homes across Central Singapore by MRT or bus.

Who can take home assignments

Home tuition in Singapore is open to Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and holders of a valid pass that allows this work. We check your eligibility before your first lesson. Start lessons at home

You agree the first lesson time with the student, or with the parent when the student is a primary pupil, and teach at their home. Pay is by the hour in SGD, inside the band printed above.

Questions

Questions tutors ask

Which English levels can I teach?

Any you are confident in. Learners in Central Singapore ask for early reading and phonics, PSLE English, secondary English up to O-Level 1184, English for Integrated Programme students, and AEIS preparation for children joining local schools. You list your levels when you apply.

Do I need teaching experience?

Teaching experience is welcome and optional. What matters most is strong English, careful marking and reliability with every student you take on. Tutors who are NIE-trained or have taught in MOE schools are given preference, and that shows in the rate offered.

Which towns does this role cover?

Anywhere in the region: Toa Payoh, Bishan, Novena, Bukit Timah, Queenstown, Bukit Merah, Kallang, Geylang and Marine Parade. Pick the ones within easy reach of your home, and add or drop towns with us whenever your schedule changes.

How is the hourly rate set?

The hourly band sits on this page. Your rate within that band reflects the student's level and your own track record, and it is confirmed with you for each assignment ahead of the first lesson.

How are students matched to me?

A learner, or whoever books on their behalf, tells us the level, the address and the lesson times wanted, and the request goes to tutors whose profile fits. The details reach you first, and you accept only the students you can serve well.

Can I take online students as well?

Yes, if you want to. Mark yourself as open to online lessons too. As requests come in for your subject and level, Eduprime may also offer you online students, from Singapore and from learners abroad.
