Apply as a home Science tutor- S$35 to S$85 per hour
- Contract, flexible hours
- Central Singapore, in person at the student's home

Science tutor jobs in Central Singapore are open at Eduprime for home tutors who teach Primary and Lower Secondary students across the region's nine towns. The work is one-to-one at the student's home. At Primary level you take a child through the MOE Science themes of Diversity, Cycles, Systems, Interactions and Energy, and you spend real time on the open-ended booklet, where a correct idea written half-way still loses the mark. At Lower Secondary you set up the habits the upper-secondary sciences will expect, from writing units and labelling diagrams to reading circuits and planning a fair test alone. Central is compact and well served by rail, so pairing lessons in neighbouring towns on one evening is realistic. You tell us the towns and slots you can cover, and each Science request there that fits your levels is offered to you.
Working in Central Singapore
- Tutors who live along the Thomson corridor have Toa Payoh, Braddell, Bishan, Novena and Newton on one line, so several Science homes can share an evening with little dead time between lessons.
- The Circle Line runs from Bishan through Marymount, Caldecott, Botanic Gardens and Farrer Road to Buona Vista, which connects Bukit Timah homes with Queenstown and the Bishan side of the region.
- Since Stage 4 of the Thomson-East Coast Line opened in June 2024, Tanjong Katong and Marine Parade stations put Katong and Marine Parade homes on a direct line from Novena and Bishan, a stretch where Primary Science requests pick up regularly in the run-up to the PSLE.
- Further south, the East-West Line stops at Queenstown, Redhill and Tiong Bahru, and the new BTO blocks around Stirling and Dawson are bringing a new wave of Primary pupils to Queenstown and Bukit Merah.
- Home Science lessons in Central usually run on weekday evenings after school, and you set the slots you are free for when you create your educator account.
The role
What you will do
- Teach Science to one child at a time, in their home, planned around the topic the school is covering and the next test on the calendar.
- Go through marked worksheets and school papers with the student, find where each mark was lost, and practise the complete answer until it comes out without prompting.
- Train Primary students to answer open-ended questions with the right scientific keywords and a full chain of cause and effect.
- Work through questions built on graphs, tables and experiment set-ups, including which variable was changed and what the results can and cannot support.
- At Lower Secondary, build the habits of units, labelled diagrams, circuit symbols and fair-test design that carry into Pure and Combined Science.
- After lessons, give each student a short update on the ground covered and the next target, with a copy to whoever registered a Primary pupil, and keep to the agreed lesson schedule.
What we are looking for
- Science passes at A-Level or equivalent as the minimum. A science degree, NIE training or school teaching experience counts in your favour.
- Confident command of Primary Science and Lower Secondary Science on the MOE syllabus, including its physics, chemistry and biology strands.
- The patience to explain an idea such as energy conversion or the water cycle in words a Primary pupil can repeat back.
- Clear spoken English and dependable punctuality for home visits.
- Availability for regular weekday evening lessons in at least one Central Singapore town.

Questions
Questions from tutors
Which levels does this Science role cover?
Primary and Lower Secondary. Primary Science follows the MOE themes and leads to PSLE. Lower Secondary Science prepares students for the choice between Pure and Combined Science in upper secondary. You can apply for one band or both.
Which towns can I choose?
Choose from the nine Central towns, from Toa Payoh and Bishan to Queenstown, Bukit Merah and Marine Parade. Keeping to towns on your own MRT line shortens travel between lessons.
How are students matched to me?
Each request tells us the student's level, school, topics and preferred lesson times, whether the learner filled it in or a parent did so for a younger child. A request that fits the towns, levels and slots on your profile is sent to you, and you decide whether to take it after seeing the details.
Do I need to be a trained teacher?
Teaching training is welcome and helps at the top of the pay range. Graduates with a strong science background and the patience to work with younger students are also welcome to apply. Serving MOE teachers need MOE approval before taking paid tuition.
How is the hourly rate set?
Science lessons pay hourly within the range printed here. The student's level and your qualifications and teaching experience set your rate, which is agreed before your first lesson with a new student.
Can I teach Science online as well?
Yes. Your educator account also lets you mark yourself open to online lessons. Online requests come from Singapore learners first, and as intake grows the Eduprime network may bring you Science students in other countries too, each matched to the levels you teach.
