Become a tutor with Eduprime Singapore

Science tutor jobs in East Singapore centre on P5 and P6, and a common worry sounds the same from house to house: the child knows the topic and still drops marks in the open-ended booklet. As a Home Science Tutor with Eduprime in the East, you sit with the student at their own table, find where those marks go and rebuild the written explanation step by step. You also carry Lower Secondary students into the habits their new syllabus expects, from units and labelled diagrams to fair tests. You set the levels and evenings you want to teach, and we offer you pupils in Bedok, Tampines and Pasir Ris whose needs fit them.

Teaching across the East

  • Bedok, Tampines and Pasir Ris sit one after another along the East-West Line, so moving between towns is a short train ride.
  • With the East-West and Downtown lines meeting at Tampines, Science tutors living elsewhere on the island reach the region easily.
  • Evening slots after school are the usual ask, and the straight run along the East-West Line makes two lessons in one evening practical.
  • Homes range from HDB flats a short walk from school to private estates and landed houses, so check each address and allow for the walk from the station.
  • Upper primary Science requests tend to begin after the P5 year-end results, as pupils head into their PSLE year.

The role

What you will do

  • Teach Primary Science across the MOE themes, with most weight on P5, P6 and the PSLE paper.
  • Coach open-ended answers so each one states the cause, the process and the result in the student's own words.
  • Work through experiment and data questions: reading tables and graphs, naming the variable that changed, and keeping conclusions within the results.
  • Guide Lower Secondary students through units, labelled diagrams, simple circuits and fair-test design.
  • Plan each lesson from the student's worksheets, recent tests and school topic calendar.
  • After lessons, drop parents a short note on the topics covered and the next step.

What we look for

  • A-Level, a polytechnic diploma or a degree, with good science results.
  • Comfortable with the biology, chemistry and physics taught from primary through lower secondary.
  • Able to reach homes in Bedok, Tampines and Pasir Ris at the times agreed.
  • Patient and punctual, and at ease teaching at a pupil's own table.
  • Tutoring or classroom experience is welcome, and new tutors with strong Science grades may apply.

Open-ended answers and fair tests: where Primary and Lower Secondary Science marks slip

Most Science learners you meet across Bedok, Tampines and Pasir Ris already know a fair amount. What costs them marks is turning that knowledge into a written answer an examiner can credit. At primary level the open-ended questions ask a learner to explain an observation from an experiment, and many write something true that never names the scientific idea behind it. A strong answer links cause to effect in one clear chain: the metal spoon gained heat faster because it is a better conductor of heat, so the ice on it melted first.

Lower Secondary brings a different hurdle. Topics that felt like stories at primary level, such as cells, matter and energy, now need precise vocabulary and models. Students meet the particle model, simple electric circuits, separation techniques and the structure of plant and animal cells, and they are expected to draw and label diagrams accurately and to read data from tables and line graphs.

Across both levels, experimental skills come up again and again. Learners mix up the variable they change with the one they measure, forget to keep other conditions the same, or describe a fair test without saying why it is fair.

  • Ask the learner to say the answer aloud first, then write it, so the reasoning appears on paper.
  • Keep a running list of key terms the learner tends to leave out, and revisit it each week.
  • Practise reading a graph by asking what the trend means before asking for a value.

Step by step through a Science lesson in a Tampines or Bedok home

A home lesson usually starts with a quick look at the learner's school work: the latest worksheet, a marked test, or a topic the class covered that week. That tells you whether the session should reteach an idea, drill answering technique, or push ahead on a topic the learner finds easy.

Science works best when the learner sees the idea happen. At a dining table you can show evaporation with two damp cloths, compare how quickly different materials absorb water, or build a simple circuit with a battery holder and a bulb if the learner has a kit from school. Keep anything you bring small, safe and easy to clear away, and agree it with the learner beforehand. For a younger child, a quick word with the parent or guardian about what you plan to use is courteous.

Exam-style questions take up the central part. Work through one together, mark it the way an examiner would, then let the learner try a similar one alone. Close with a short recap and set a few questions to try before your next visit, so the following session can open by checking them.

Building a weekly route across the East-West Line and the Downtown Line

Bedok, Tampines and Pasir Ris all sit along the green East-West Line, which makes the region straightforward to move through by train. Pasir Ris is the eastern end of the line, Tampines sits in the middle and Bedok lies further west toward the city. The blue Downtown Line also runs through Tampines and the Bedok area, which helps if you are coming from other parts of Singapore or travelling between estates that lie away from the green line. A Cross Island Line route is due here later.

Your profile's towns and hours are yours to pick, so you can shape the Science week around travel. Many tutors cluster lessons by town: back-to-back lessons near Tampines on one afternoon, then a Pasir Ris lesson to finish, which keeps the region from turning into a back-and-forth journey. Leave a sensible gap for the bus or walk from the MRT to each learner's block.

School-going learners are usually free from late afternoon on weekdays, and weekends open up longer slots. While settling slots with each learner, think about your full week so that the timetable still works when school activities or examinations shift things.

How Science tutoring changes through the school year

The Singapore school year runs in terms separated by holidays, and the focus of your lessons moves with it. Early in the year the work is about new topics: helping a learner settle into a new level and catch any gaps from the year before. As school assessments approach, sessions lean toward practice papers, timed questions and careful marking.

Mid-year exams have been dropped across primary and secondary schools, which makes weighted assessments through the year, together with the end-of-year examination, the main Science checkpoints at these levels. In the weeks before them, a useful approach is to sort past mistakes by topic and by type of error, then spend each lesson on the patterns that cost the most marks. For learners in their final primary year, the national examination later in the year shapes the whole second half of the year, and revision becomes steady and structured.

School holidays are a good time to rebuild foundations without the pressure of the next test. A learner who struggled with energy or cells in one term can revisit the idea slowly, with hands-on examples and fresh questions.

After results come back, review the paper together. Seeing exactly where marks were dropped gives both of you a clear plan for the next stretch of lessons.

Questions

Questions about this role

Which levels does this role cover?

Primary Science and Lower Secondary Science. In the East, most requests sit at P5 and P6 ahead of the PSLE, alongside Lower Secondary students settling into the secondary syllabus.

Do I need to live in the East?

Living nearby helps with evening lessons, and tutors from other parts of Singapore are welcome too. Tampines is an interchange for the East-West and Downtown Lines, so the region is easy to reach.

How are pupils matched to me?

We match on level, the towns you can reach and the times you keep free. When a request fits, we send it to you and you choose. How many requests you receive depends on how many East-side learners sign up at your levels.

What does a typical lesson look like?

Many lessons open with the latest worksheet or school test, move to the topic that cost the most marks, and close with a few open-ended questions written out in full so the student practises the wording.

Can I also teach online?

Yes. After you join, online lessons can be added to your profile. The first online Science requests come from Singapore homes; later, students overseas who follow the MOE syllabus may ask for you too.

How much time does this take each week?

It is a contract role with flexible hours. You decide how many lessons to take, so it can sit alongside university study, a teaching post or other work.
