Apply as an English tutor- S$35 to S$90 per hour
- Contract, flexible hours
- In person, at student homes across West Singapore

West Singapore's home English tutor jobs stay open all year at Eduprime, for tutors who teach in the learner's home. The towns on this posting are Jurong West, Boon Lay, Jurong East and Clementi along the green line, plus Bukit Batok, Choa Chu Kang, Bukit Panjang and Tengah further north. English work here spans every stage of school: phonics and reading fluency for children who have just entered Primary 1, composition, comprehension and oral for PSLE, and the whole O-Level English Language paper for secondary students. Most lessons are one-to-one, held in the learner's own home. You tell us which towns suit your travel and which evenings or weekend slots are free, and students whose level and location fit are offered to you.
Getting around the West
- Green and red lines meet at Jurong East, so an English tutor can keep a compact week on one of them, perhaps Clementi and Boon Lay on the green, or Bukit Batok and Choa Chu Kang on the red.
- The Downtown Line ends at Bukit Panjang, where the LRT loop brings most blocks within a short walk. Because that LRT also reaches Choa Chu Kang, a lesson in each town fits into one evening.
- Tengah is still waiting for its first MRT station, so tutors come in by feeder bus from Bukit Batok or Choa Chu Kang. Many of the youngest pupils in the new flats there start with lower-primary English and phonics.
- Clementi is an easy trip from the city side and from the NUS area, handy for tutors who study or work close by.
- Each student's lesson time is agreed with you around the school day, and your own timetable decides which weekday evenings and weekend slots you open up.
The role
What you will do
- Plan each week's lesson around the student's school calendar, upcoming tests and exam dates.
- Mark compositions, situational writing and comprehension answers the way an examiner reads them, and hand each piece back with one or two clear next steps.
- Coach reading aloud and spoken interaction in the weeks before the oral exam.
- Build phonics, decoding and reading fluency with lower-primary children, and tell the parent who registered a young reader plainly when a reading gap needs attention.
- Practise timed comprehension and summary with upper-primary and secondary students.
- Close each lesson with a short update for the student, shared with the parent for primary pupils, and raise any concern early.
What we look for
- A confident command of written and spoken English, and enough grammar to show a student exactly where a sentence breaks down and how to mend it.
- Working knowledge of the MOE English syllabus for the levels you pick, from PSLE English up to O-Level English Language.
- A diploma, degree or teaching qualification is welcome. Undergraduates with good English results are also considered.
- Ready to go to students' homes in the West towns you pick and to hold the same weekly lesson time with each student.
- Patient and warm with young readers, clear and direct with older students.

Questions
Questions from English tutors in the West
Which levels can I teach?
The English intake runs from Primary to JC. You name the levels that suit you, and offers stay within them.
Must I cover every town in the west?
The towns are yours to pick. Plenty of English tutors stay on one MRT line, green or red, which keeps travel between lessons short.
Do I need tuition experience?
Tuition experience helps, and you can apply without it. What counts most is a sure command of English, a solid grasp of the syllabus you plan to teach, and the patience to mark each composition with care.
How is pay set?
English lessons are paid hourly in SGD, inside the pay band printed on this posting. Your rate is confirmed before the first lesson, Eduprime pays you for each validated session, and the rate reflects the student's level along with your qualifications and teaching record.
How does matching work?
A West student asking for English tells us the level, the town and the hours, and is offered to tutors whose profile fits. Offers come as often as learners ask for your levels and towns.
Can I teach online as well?
Yes, if you say you are open to it. Eduprime also runs online English lessons, and as that intake grows it may include students from other countries who request English at the stages you cover.
What happens after I apply?
You set up your educator account through our registration link, we review your profile, and we get in touch once a student who fits your levels and towns asks for English tuition.
