Become a tutor with Eduprime Singapore

Home English tutor jobs in East Singapore begin with a learner who needs a tutor to come to the house, sit at the dining table and work through the paper that is coming up next. For a Primary 2 child that might be sounding out words and reading a page aloud without stopping. For a Primary 6 pupil it is the composition, the comprehension and the oral, each rehearsed in its own way. For a Secondary 4 student it is continuous writing, situational writing and a summary that has to fit the word limit. You tell us which of these you teach well and when you are free, and we bring you requests from Bedok, Tampines and Pasir Ris that fit.

Teaching in the east

  • Bedok, Tampines and Pasir Ris run along one straight stretch of the East-West Line, so pairing a Tampines lesson with a Bedok one after dinner is easy to plan.
  • The Downtown Line meets the East-West Line at Tampines and also stops at Bedok North and Bedok Reservoir, a handy way in for English tutors coming from the city side.
  • Pasir Ris is the eastern end of the East-West Line today and is set to become an interchange with the Cross Island Line, so tutors living in the north-east will find it easier to reach over time.
  • Weekday evenings after school are the usual pattern for home lessons here, and you can offer weekend hours as well if you keep them free.
  • All three towns ask often for Primary English and PSLE composition, early readers in Pasir Ris often need phonics and reading support, and some students in Tampines and Pasir Ris follow IGCSE or IB English.

The role

What you will do

  • Plan each lesson around the paper the student sits next, and change the plan as the school's test dates move.
  • Read every composition and piece of situational writing against the band descriptors, and return it with one or two fixes the student tries in the very next draft.
  • Help children in the early primary years sound out unfamiliar words, grow their word bank and read a full page aloud with fewer stops.
  • Coach PSLE and O-Level oral out loud: reading a passage with expression, then answering the conversation questions with a reason and an example.
  • Drill comprehension and summary against the clock so the student finishes the paper with time to check.
  • Keep each student clear on what improved, what still costs marks and what the next few lessons will cover, and include a parent in that note for younger children.

What we look for

  • Strong written and spoken English, and the ability to explain grammar and structure in words a child can follow.
  • Working knowledge of at least one local track you plan to teach: PSLE English, O-Level English Language or General Paper.
  • A diploma, degree or teaching qualification, or a record of teaching local students that you can talk us through.
  • Regular evening or weekend hours you can keep for the same students week after week.
  • At ease in a student's home: on time, and able to keep a calm, focused lesson whatever else is going on in the flat.

Questions

Questions about this role

Which towns will my lessons be in?

Bedok, Tampines and Pasir Ris. Tell us the estate you live in and whether you travel by MRT or bus, and the requests we send you will cluster along that route.

Which levels can I teach?

Whichever you handle best. Early readers, the PSLE year, Secondary English Language and the JC General Paper each call for a different kind of lesson, so pick the stages where your explanations land and we keep your requests to those.

When do lessons usually happen?

Home lessons in the east tend to start once students are back from school and have eaten, and weekend hours are open to tutors who offer them. Your availability in your educator account decides which slots reach you.

How is my hourly rate decided?

The page shows the hourly band for this role. Your place within it follows the stage you teach and the teaching record you bring.

Do I need tutoring experience?

There is no minimum period of experience. A sound grasp of the English syllabus you want to teach matters most, and time spent with local students counts in your favour when your rate is set.

Can I also teach online?

Yes. Once you have joined, switch on online lessons too. The first online students are in Singapore, and English learners in other countries may follow as Eduprime's intake grows, whenever a learner there asks for what you teach.

What happens right after I apply?

The next screen takes you to your educator account, where your profile and free hours are kept. We go through your details, check your eligibility for home tuition in Singapore, and contact you when an English request from Bedok, Tampines or Pasir Ris matches your level.
