Maths tutors who live in the east, or can reach it easily, are who we want to hear from for this role. Every lesson is one to one in the student's home, and the students range from a P5 pupil learning to draw a clean bar model to a JC2 student working through H2 statistics before the A-Level papers. Bedok, Tampines and Pasir Ris are large HDB towns lined up along one East-West Line run, which makes the east one of the easiest parts of the island to build a weekly teaching round in. You tell us the levels you teach and the hours you keep free, and we match you with families whose requests fit.
Teaching in the east: travel and timing
- Bedok, Tanah Merah, Simei, Tampines and Pasir Ris stations sit on one straight East-West Line run, so a lesson in Bedok followed by one in Pasir Ris is a short, direct ride on the same train.
- Tampines is an interchange with the Downtown Line, which also serves Bedok North, Bedok Reservoir, Tampines West, Tampines East and Upper Changi and reaches the blocks set back from the East-West Line.
- Most lessons take place in HDB flats a few minutes' walk from a station. Many tutors in the region hold two weekday lessons back to back in different towns on the same evening.
- Primary maths requests tend to begin right after the P5 year-end results. JC maths runs all year and rises before promos and again before the A-Level papers.
- The Cross Island Line is under construction, with stations planned at Pasir Ris and Tampines North, a newer precinct where many young families have moved in.
The role
What you will do
- Get to the student's home in Bedok, Tampines or Pasir Ris for each lesson and start on time.
- Work out where marks are being lost: a weak earlier topic, working left off the page, slips under time pressure or a question type the student has never met.
- Teach the methods Singapore schools expect, from the PSLE model method to A-Maths calculus and H2 statistics.
- Set practice from past-year and school-style papers and mark it against the marking scheme, method marks included.
- For Integrated Programme students, pace lessons around the school's own tests and topic order.
- At the end of each block of lessons, give parents a plain account of the progress made and the topic that comes next.
What we look for
- Strong mathematics of your own at and above the level you plan to teach, such as a good A-Level, IB or university result in the subject.
- Working knowledge of the current MOE syllabus for the levels you offer: PSLE, E-Maths and A-Maths, or H1 and H2 Mathematics.
- Patient, clear explanation, with neat set-out working that students can copy into their own exam habits.
- Reliable travel within East Singapore on weekday evenings or weekends.

Pay
Hourly rate for this role
S$35 to S$90 per hour
Where you sit in the band depends on the level you teach and the experience you bring. The rate is agreed before you accept an assignment and paid on schedule.
Who can take home assignments
Home tuition in Singapore is open to Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and holders of a valid pass that allows this work. We check your eligibility before your first lesson. Serving MOE teachers need MOE approval before taking paid tuition. Lessons run at the family's home or online, and online lessons are taught from Singapore.

Which maths levels do east families ask for most?
Upper primary maths leads, with P5 and P6 pupils in Bedok and Tampines preparing for the PSLE. Secondary students around Tampines and Pasir Ris ask for A-Maths in Sec 3 and 4, and students from Temasek JC, Tampines Meridian JC and Victoria JC ask for H2 Mathematics. Families linked to UWCSEA East and the international schools near Pasir Ris also ask for IB and IGCSE maths.
I teach O-Level maths. Can I take Integrated Programme students?
Yes, if you are comfortable pacing against school-set tests. Victoria School students continue to Victoria JC, and Temasek JC runs its own six-year programme, so these students skip the O-Level papers and are graded on their school's assessments. Mention IP experience in your application and we will match you accordingly.
Where do Temasek JC students have lessons at the moment?
Temasek JC is teaching from a holding site at Tampines Avenue 9 while its Bedok South Road campus is redeveloped, with the return planned for late 2027. Lesson times for these students often follow Tampines school hours, which helps if you already teach in Tampines.
How is the pay set?
Pay is hourly and sits within the band printed on this page. The rate for each student depends on the level, such as PSLE or H2, and on your teaching record, and it is confirmed with you before you accept the match.
Can I teach online as well?
Yes. Home lessons in the east are the core of this role, and your educator account also lets you open online slots. Online work begins with Singapore students, and families overseas who want Singapore-style maths may later be matched with you when they ask for your level.
How many lessons do I need to take?
You set the evenings and weekends you keep free and the towns you are happy to travel to. You can start with a single weekly lesson and add more once you know how the travel fits your week.
