Getting around West Singapore
- The green line takes you through Clementi, Jurong East, Chinese Garden, Lakeside and Boon Lay, and the red line climbs from Jurong East to Bukit Batok, Bukit Gombak, Choa Chu Kang and Yew Tee. Chemistry tutors tend to keep an evening on one of the two and change at Jurong East only when a lesson calls for it.
- The Bukit Panjang LRT covers both Bukit Panjang, which is also on the Downtown Line, and the Choa Chu Kang estates at South View, Keat Hong and Teck Whye, so most blocks are a short walk from a stop.
- Tengah still has no MRT station, and feeder buses from Bukit Batok or Choa Chu Kang carry you there until the Jurong Region Line opens.
- A-Level Chemistry in the region is anchored by Jurong Pioneer JC at Teck Whye and the JC section of River Valley High in Boon Lay. Millennia Institute in Bukit Batok runs a three-year A-Level route, so check which year an MI student is in before you plan the pace.
- Integrated Programme students at NUS High in Clementi and at River Valley High follow their school's own chemistry course, so ask for the school's topic list and latest assessments at the first lesson.
The role
What you will do
- Arrive at the student's home in West Singapore for each agreed weekly lesson, ready to teach.
- In the first lesson, read recent tests and practical worksheets to find the step where marks are slipping.
- Rebuild the mole concept, formulae and equations, then carry that into titration, gas volume and yield calculations.
- Teach organic chemistry as reaction mechanisms and functional-group conversions that students can reason through under exam conditions.
- Coach precise qualitative analysis wording and, for H2 students, the experimental planning question.
- Short practice between lessons and a clear progress summary after each block keep the student moving; for younger secondary students, whoever registered them gets a copy.
What we look for
- A strong Chemistry result at or above the level you teach, with a good H2 Chemistry grade as the base for O-Level work.
- To teach H1 and H2, a degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, pharmacy or a closely related science.
- Working knowledge of the current syllabus for each level you register for, including its practical assessment.
- Able to travel to students' homes in West Singapore at the same time each week.
- Clear, patient explanation in English and reliable communication with each student about scheduling.
Pay
Hourly rate for this role
S$40 to S$100 per hour
Where you sit in the band depends on the level you teach and the experience you bring. The rate is agreed before you accept an assignment and paid on schedule.

Home tuition in Singapore is open to Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and holders of a valid pass that allows this work. We check your eligibility before your first lesson. Serving MOE teachers need MOE approval before taking paid tuition. Lessons run at the learner's home or online, and online lessons are taught from Singapore.

Upper-secondary O-Level Chemistry and the chemistry component of Combined Science, H1 and H2 Chemistry for junior college and Millennia Institute students, and Integrated Programme chemistry. You register the levels you are confident teaching, and openings are matched to those levels.
Can my towns sit on both the green and red lines?
Yes. The lines cross at Jurong East, and a Clementi to Choa Chu Kang journey takes around thirty minutes before the walk. Most Chemistry tutors still keep the bulk of their week on one side.
What changes when I teach an IP student?
IP students at NUS High and River Valley High follow their school's own chemistry course. Ask for the topic list and the most recent assessments at the first lesson, then plan your sessions from those.
How is the pay set?
