North Singapore's home maths tutor jobs follow the subject students here ask for most once they reach secondary school, and the requests start earlier than that. Pupils in the newer Sembawang and Canberra estates are moving through the upper primary years with PSLE in view, Yishun pupils often begin maths tuition from P4, and every secondary school in Woodlands, Yishun and Sembawang sends up E-Maths and A-Maths requests. Working in the north
- One rail line ties the region together. Marsiling, Woodlands, Admiralty, Sembawang, Canberra, Yishun and Khatib are all North-South Line stations, so a tutor living anywhere along that line can move between homes in the three towns without an interchange.
- Woodlands is also served by the Thomson-East Coast Line at Woodlands North, Woodlands and Woodlands South, which puts the town within one ride of Upper Thomson, Caldecott and the city for tutors based further south.
- Weekend slots matter in Woodlands. Many students there live in households that commute across the Causeway on weekdays, so Saturday and Sunday lessons are common, and a younger pupil's parent can then meet the tutor and follow the work.
- The mix of levels shifts from town to town. The newer Sembawang and Canberra estates bring mostly primary and lower-secondary maths, Woodlands carries the widest spread of upper-secondary Elementary and Additional Maths, and Yishun combines a large PSLE cohort with secondary and JC students.
The role
What you will do
- Teach one-to-one maths lessons in the student's home in Woodlands, Yishun or Sembawang, at the levels you have agreed to take.
- Trace a weak result back to the earlier topic behind it, such as fractions under a ratio question or index laws under an A-Maths differentiation problem, and rebuild that topic first.
- Teach the steps where north students tend to stall: from bar models into algebra in lower secondary, and from E-Maths into A-Maths calculus in Sec 3.
- Set timed practice under exam conditions and mark it to the paper's own scheme, method marks included.
- Build clear written working so marks survive the pressure of a full paper.
- After each cycle of lessons, tell the student briefly and plainly which topics have moved and which come next, and copy in the adult who registered a primary pupil.
What we look for
- Command of the MOE maths syllabus for each level you offer, from PSLE bar models and heuristics to E-Maths, A-Maths and JC H1 or H2 Maths.
- A strong recent maths result at A-Level or degree level, or a record of teaching Singapore students; NIE training or MOE classroom experience counts in your favour.
- Reliable travel to homes in at least one of Woodlands, Yishun or Sembawang, and a weekly slot you can keep through the school term.
- Patience with a student who repeats the same error, and the calm to explain a topic a second or third way.

Pay
Hourly rate for this role
S$35 to S$90 per hour
Where you sit in the band depends on the level you teach and the experience you bring. The rate is agreed before you accept an assignment and paid on schedule.
Who can take home assignments
Home tuition in Singapore is open to Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and holders of a valid pass that allows this work. We check your eligibility before your first lesson. Serving MOE teachers need MOE approval before taking paid tuition. Lessons run at the learner's home or online, and online lessons are taught from Singapore.

Which maths levels can I take in the north?
Any level you teach well. Requests here cover PSLE maths, lower-secondary maths, O-Level E-Maths and A-Maths, and H1 and H2 Maths at JC. You choose the levels on your profile, and we only match you with students at those levels.
Do I need teaching experience to apply?
Experience is welcome, and a strong A-Level or degree record in mathematics is enough to start. What we check most closely is whether you understand the syllabus at the levels you pick and can explain it clearly to a student sitting next to you.
Can I choose to teach in one town only?
Yes. You set the towns you can reach. Many tutors who live near a North-South Line station take homes in all three towns, and others keep to the town they live in. Either works, and you can change it in your account at any time.
When do lessons usually happen?
Weekday lessons usually fall after school, in the late afternoon or evening. Weekend slots are in demand too, especially in Woodlands, where many households have someone working across the Causeway during the week.
How is my pay set?
Maths lessons are paid by the hour from the band on this page. The level you teach and the experience you bring decide where you sit in it.
