Become a tutor with Eduprime Singapore

North-East Singapore's home maths tutor jobs span two kinds of maths market joined by one train line. In Sengkang and Punggol, home to the region's youngest estates and school rolls, most of the maths is primary and lower secondary: part-whole thinking, the model method and the heuristics that PSLE problem sums lean on. In Ang Mo Kio, Serangoon and Hougang the students are older, so the work moves up into E-Maths, A-Maths and JC maths, with calculus, trigonometry and statistics carrying the load. Eduprime needs home maths tutors at both ends of the region. You tell us the towns you can reach, the levels you teach well and your free evening or weekend hours, and learners' requests are offered to you by level and area. Apply on this page first, then set up your educator account so offers can reach you.

Getting around the North-East

  • A single ride on the North East Line connects the older maths market around Serangoon and Hougang with the newer one out at Sengkang and Punggol.
  • At Sengkang and Punggol the LRT takes over, reaching the precincts without a bus transfer, so two lessons in one evening stay realistic.
  • Travelling in from outside? Serangoon connects to the Circle Line, and Ang Mo Kio is on the North South Line, with the brown-line stations at Mayflower, Bright Hill and Lentor a short walk or bus away.
  • Around Hougang and Kovan, maths requests bunch into the after-school window, roughly 3pm to 8pm on weekdays, while Sengkang students also ask for weekend slots.
  • Primary and lower-secondary maths concentrates in Sengkang and Punggol, while secondary E-Maths, A-Maths and JC H2 Maths concentrate in Ang Mo Kio, Serangoon and Hougang. Tutors who teach across both find it easier to fill a week.

The role

What you will do

  • Find where the student's maths first broke down, often a topic from a year or two earlier, and rebuild it before going back to current school work.
  • Teach the model method and PSLE heuristics at primary, and guide the step from model drawing into algebra in lower secondary.
  • Cover E-Maths and A-Maths at upper secondary, including differentiation, integration and trigonometry, and H1 or H2 Maths for JC students where you offer it.
  • Run full papers against the clock and mark them against the exam's own scheme, method marks and working included.
  • Build the written working habits that keep marks when an answer goes wrong.
  • After each cycle of practice, tell the student in plain language where they stand (primary pupils' parents get a copy), and give early notice if a lesson slot has to move.

What we look for

  • A secure grasp of every maths level you offer, from PSLE through O-Level and, if you teach it, JC.
  • For upper-secondary and JC work, a strong A-Level or degree-level maths result, or experience teaching Singapore students.
  • Clear explanations on paper, and patience with a student who has come to dread maths.
  • Punctual attendance at the agreed weekly slot, in homes across the North-East towns on your list.
  • Upper-level students tend to ask for tutors who trained at NIE or taught in an MOE school, so mention yours.

Who can take home assignments

Home tuition in Singapore is open to Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and holders of a valid pass that allows this work. We check your eligibility before your first lesson. Serving MOE teachers need MOE approval before taking paid tuition. Lessons run at the learner's home or online, and online lessons are taught from Singapore.

Questions

Questions from maths tutors

Which maths levels are asked for most in the North-East?

It depends on the town. Sengkang and Punggol lean towards primary and lower-secondary maths, with PSLE problem sums at the centre. Ang Mo Kio, Serangoon and Hougang lean towards O-Level E-Maths and A-Maths, and the region's JC students bring H2 Maths requests.

Do I have to live in the North-East?

Living nearby makes the week easier, though it is optional. Many tutors pick two or three neighbouring towns along the North East Line as a base, so one evening can hold more than one lesson.

How are students matched to me?

We match by level, town and time slot: a learner in one of your listed towns asks for maths you teach, the student is offered to you, and the choice to accept is yours.

How is the pay set?

Pay is hourly in Singapore dollars, inside the range on this page; how advanced your students are and how long you have taught that syllabus place you within it.

Can I teach online as well?

Yes. Switch on online availability in your educator account, and students elsewhere in Singapore can book you; as intake grows, maths students abroad may be added to your list whenever they request the level you teach.

Do I need prior tuition experience?

Formal tuition experience is optional. What matters is secure command of the syllabus you offer and the ability to explain it clearly. For A-Maths and H2 work we look for a strong maths result or teaching experience at that level.
