Become a tutor with Eduprime Singapore

Home physics tutor jobs in the North-East start from one problem: a student can recite a formula and still lose the mark, because the question asks why the trolley slows, which way the induced current flows or how wide the uncertainty is. Eduprime is hiring home physics tutors to coach that reasoning in students' homes across the North-East. Your students are Sec 3 and Sec 4 candidates for O-Level Physics (6091), and junior college students sitting H1 (8867) or H2 (9478), usually one to one at the kitchen table or study desk, where a ruler, a spring and a phone stopwatch are enough to turn a line in the textbook into something the student has measured. Once you have joined, learners are matched to you on three things: the physics levels you cover, the towns within your travel range and the time slots you leave free. Every offer is yours to accept or decline. The application has two steps: this form first, then your educator account. If you later want online students as well, Eduprime can offer them when learners ask for your level.

Teaching across the North-East

  • Serangoon, Hougang, Sengkang and Punggol sit along the North East Line, with Kovan and Buangkok stations between them, so back-to-back lessons in neighbouring towns rarely need more than a few stops.
  • Past the town-centre stations of Sengkang and Punggol, the LRT carries you close to most blocks, which shortens the walk to a student's home.
  • Ang Mo Kio is on the North-South Line, and Serangoon is also a Circle Line interchange, which suits tutors travelling in from the central and western parts of the island.
  • In Hougang, weekday lessons commonly run in the after-school window from 3pm to 8pm. Sengkang students often book weekday evenings and weekends.
  • Pure Physics at O-Level is requested around the secondary schools of Ang Mo Kio, Hougang and Sengkang. Punggol's secondary cohorts are moving into Sec 3 and 4, and Serangoon adds JC-bound students who study along the North East and Circle Lines.

The role

What you will do

  • Teach O-Level Physics (6091) and JC Physics at H1 (8867) or H2 (9478) in person at the student's home, following the topic the school is covering that term.
  • Rebuild shaky foundations in kinematics, forces, energy and current electricity before moving on to waves, fields and electromagnetic induction.
  • Run short hands-on exercises with simple household items so the student practises measurement, uncertainty and graph work for the practical paper.
  • Hold every answer to the syllabus wording for definitions and units, and have the student derive results on blank paper from a stated principle.
  • Work through past-year O-Level and A-Level papers and the student's own prelim scripts, marking each answer step by step against the official scheme until the student can predict where marks fall.
  • Leave the student a short note after each lesson on what they can now do and what comes next.

What we look for

  • A strong personal result in physics above the level you teach: A-Level or IB physics for O-Level students, and a physics, engineering or related degree, completed or in progress, for H1 and H2.
  • Working knowledge of the current 6091, 8867 or 9478 syllabus, including the practical paper for the levels you take on.
  • Clear explanations with diagrams drawn live, and the patience to correct the same definition until it is exact.
  • Punctual travel to homes across the North-East by MRT, LRT or bus.
  • Former MOE physics teachers and NIE-trained tutors are welcome, and so are graduates with real tutoring experience.

Pay

Hourly rate for this role

S$40 to S$100 per hour

Where you sit in the band depends on the level you teach and the experience you bring. The rate is agreed before you accept an assignment and paid on schedule.

Who can take home assignments

Home tuition in Singapore is open to Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and holders of a valid pass that allows this work. We check your eligibility before your first lesson. Serving MOE teachers need MOE approval before taking paid tuition. Lessons run at the learner's home or online, and online lessons are taught from Singapore.

How it works

How it works

  1. 01

    Apply here

Fill in the form here: the physics levels you cover, which North-East towns suit your travel, and your free weekday and weekend slots.

  2. 02

    Create your educator account

The confirmation screen carries a link for opening your educator account. Subject, levels and area ride along with it, so there is little to type again.

  3. 03

    Profile check

We read through your physics results and check your right to teach at homes in Singapore, all before a student is introduced.

  4. 04

    Matching and first lesson

When a North-East student asks for your level at a time you have open, we send you the offer. You accept it, agree the start date with the student and teach the first lesson at the student's home.

Questions

Questions from physics tutors

Which levels will I teach?

O-Level Physics (6091) for upper-secondary students and JC Physics at H1 (8867) or H2 (9478). Tick the levels you feel ready for in the form, and offers will stay within them.

Do I have to cover the whole North-East?

No need. Many tutors keep to Sengkang and Punggol, or to the Serangoon and Hougang side, close to where they live. You set your towns when you apply and can widen them later.

When do lessons usually happen?

Most physics lessons land after school on weekdays or on Saturday and Sunday. You and each student fix a weekly slot, and the months before the practical and the prelims often add a session or two.

What decides my pay per hour?

Pay is hourly and the band appears in the pay box on this page. Your point inside it follows the level of the student, with H2 at the top end, and the teaching record you bring. We confirm the figure with you ahead of the first lesson.

Do I need to bring equipment?

A pen, paper, a scientific calculator and your own past-year questions are enough for most lessons. For practical work, a ruler, a spring, some string and a stopwatch can be found in most homes.

Can I teach online students as well?

Yes, if you would like to. Eduprime also arranges online lessons, and as learners ask for your level we can offer you online students alongside your home lessons, including students outside Singapore.
