Become a tutor with Eduprime Singapore

North Singapore's home physics tutor jobs follow one railway line. Secondary schools in Woodlands and Yishun keep up steady upper-secondary demand in the Pure Sciences, and JC students from across the northern belt, many of them at Yishun Innova Junior College, look for help with H1 and H2 Physics. We are taking on home physics tutors who can teach in person in Woodlands, Sembawang and Yishun and who like their lessons close together on the map. Lessons are one-to-one in the student's home, and the lesson times are settled with the student before your first visit.

Working in North Singapore

  • One train line serves the whole region, so a physics lesson in Woodlands straight after school and another in Yishun later that evening need no change of trains.
  • The Thomson-East Coast Line crosses the North-South Line at Woodlands, and its three stations inside the town, from Woodlands North down to Woodlands South, leave few blocks far from a platform. Tutors living near Upper Thomson or Caldecott ride straight up with no change.
  • Allow roughly 30 to 40 minutes door to door between a home in Woodlands and a home in Yishun. Pairing homes in two towns on a single night is comfortable; adding a third tends to push the last lesson late.
  • Secondary and JC lessons mostly fall on weekday evenings. Weekend slots are popular in Woodlands, where plenty of students have a parent working across the Causeway.
  • Physics requests in the region come mainly from secondary students in Woodlands and Yishun and from JC students around Yishun and Khatib. Sembawang's learners are younger on the whole, mostly at primary level, so physics lessons there are fewer.

The role

What you will do

  • Arrive at the student's flat or house in Woodlands, Sembawang or Yishun for a fixed weekly slot you agreed with them.
  • Start from the student's latest school test or worksheet to find the topics where marks are slipping away.
  • Teach O-Level 6091 or H1 and H2 Physics in step with the school's scheme of work, from kinematics and turning effects to electromagnetism and, at H2, quantum physics.
  • Build the skills the practical paper tests: reading instruments, recording data to the right precision, and drawing and reading graphs.
  • Set past-year and prelim questions and mark them strictly against the published marking scheme.
  • Keep the student, and whoever booked the lessons, informed with a short account of the gains so far and the topics coming up next.

What we look for

  • Solid command of O-Level Physics 6091, plus the H1 (8867) or H2 (9478) physics syllabus if you want JC students.
  • A top-grade physics result at A-Level or an equivalent for O-Level students; a physics or engineering degree, NIE training or classroom teaching behind you for H2 students.
  • Dependable transport to northern homes on weekday evenings or weekends.
  • Clear, patient explanation, with worked examples written out by hand.
  • Legal eligibility for paid home tuition in Singapore, verified during onboarding ahead of any lesson.

Questions

Questions from physics tutors

What physics students are we placing in the north?

Upper-secondary candidates preparing for the 6091 O-Level paper, plus JC students on H1 or H2 Physics. You choose the levels you are comfortable with when you apply, and we match you at those levels only.

Is this role workable if I live outside the north?

Being close helps, since students here value a tutor who turns up reliably on weeknights. From farther away, a home near either line that reaches Woodlands, the North-South one or the newer Thomson-East Coast one, keeps the trip to a single ride.

Can I teach in more than one town?

Yes. All three towns share one run of the North-South Line, so a tutor based in any one of them can take students in the other two without a long detour.

What decides the hourly rate for a physics tutor?

The band printed above covers physics lessons in this posting. Your place within it follows your qualifications, your teaching experience and whether the student is at O-Level or JC level. Your rate is settled with you ahead of any student match.

Can I also teach online?

Yes. Online lessons can sit alongside your home lessons once your educator account is set up. Your first online students would be in Singapore. As more learners join, Eduprime may offer you students abroad too, whenever someone overseas wants help with the physics papers you teach.

Is tutoring experience required?

Formal tutoring experience is optional. What counts is how well you know the syllabus and how clearly you explain it. For H2 students we look for a deeper physics background, such as a physics or engineering degree, NIE training or classroom teaching.
