North Singapore's home Chemistry tutor jobs are open to new tutors who can travel along the North-South Line. The work sits with secondary students who have started Pure or Combined Chemistry, and with junior college students taking H1 or H2 Chemistry. You go to a flat or condo in Woodlands, Sembawang or Yishun, usually for one lesson a week at a fixed time, and you teach one student or a pair of siblings at the dining table with their school worksheets open. Chemistry is a subject where a gap in Sec 3 quietly follows a student all the way to the A-Level paper, so students here look for a tutor who can find the weak link early and stay with them over the long run. Teaching Chemistry in the north
- Woodlands, Sembawang and Yishun share one stretch of the North-South Line, with Woodlands to Yishun four stops apart. Budget about half an hour or a little more between homes if you teach in two towns in one evening.
- The Thomson-East Coast Line serves Woodlands South, Woodlands and Woodlands North, and Woodlands station is the interchange with the North-South Line. Tutors who live along the Thomson-East Coast Line reach Woodlands in one ride.
- Secondary Chemistry lessons come mostly from homes in Woodlands and Yishun, and they tend to start in Sec 3, when students begin Pure or Combined Chemistry and the first practical tests arrive.
- Junior college students in the north attend Yishun Innova Junior College, so H1 and H2 Chemistry lessons tend to cluster around Yishun and Khatib.
- Weekday evenings after school and CCA are the usual lesson slot for secondary and JC students. Some students in Woodlands and Sembawang book weekend lessons, often because their household's weekdays are shaped by a commute across the Causeway or into the city.
The role
What you will do
- Arrive on time each week at the student's flat or condo in Woodlands, Sembawang or Yishun for the slot you agreed on.
- Spend the first session going through the student's latest class tests and worksheets, then agree with the student on which topics to repair first.
- Rebuild the calculation chain of moles, concentration, limiting reagent and percentage yield wherever marks keep slipping.
- Teach bonding, energetics, equilibrium and organic reactions in the order the school covers them, so each lesson helps with the next class test.
- Practise qualitative analysis wording, titration method and planning questions until the student can write them the way examiners expect.
- Set short practice between lessons and send a clear update after each round of school tests to the student and to whoever booked the lessons.
What we are looking for
- You have studied Chemistry one stage beyond your students. For O-Level learners that means a solid H2 Chemistry grade at A-Level; for JC learners it means a university degree where Chemistry was central, such as chemistry, pharmacy, chemical engineering, medicine or the life sciences.
- Solid command of the current Singapore-Cambridge Chemistry syllabus at your chosen levels, including the practical and planning components.
- Teaching experience is welcome and optional. Undergraduates, graduates, former school teachers and full-time tutors can all apply.
- Clear spoken and written English, and patience with teenagers who have lost confidence in the subject.
- You can get to northern HDB estates dependably and hold one weekly slot steady from the start of term to the end.
Pay
Hourly rate for this role
S$40 to S$100 per hour
Where you sit in the band depends on the level you teach and the experience you bring. The rate is agreed before you accept an assignment and paid on schedule.

Home tuition in Singapore is open to Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and holders of a valid pass that allows this work. We check your eligibility before your first lesson. Serving MOE teachers need MOE approval before taking paid tuition. Lessons run at the learner's home or online, and online lessons are taught from Singapore.

Do I need prior tuition experience?
Experience helps and it is optional. We care most about your Chemistry results and your ability to explain the subject clearly. Many tutors start with O-Level students and add JC students once they are settled.
Which levels can I teach?
You choose. For O-Level Pure and Combined Chemistry we ask for a solid H2 Chemistry grade at A-Level. For H1 and H2 students we ask for a degree where Chemistry was a core part of your study. You can register for both if you meet both bars.
Can I pick which towns I travel to?
Yes. You tell us whether you can take Woodlands, Sembawang, Yishun or any combination, and we only send you requests in the towns you picked. You can change this in your educator account at any time.
How is the pay set?
You are paid per hour within the band shown on this page. A JC lesson sits higher in that band than an O-Level one, and your own qualifications also move the figure, which is shown on every request before you say yes.
Can I also teach online, including students outside Singapore?
