Much of what decides an IB grade is finished long before the examination hall opens, and in the closing half of the calendar year that work stacks up hardest. A May-session student who has just moved into DP2 is drafting internal assessments in several subjects at once, closing out an Extended Essay, and producing the very work a school reads when it writes the predicted grades that go out with university applications. A November-session student a few MRT stops away is already past that stretch, moving through mock papers and into the written ones on a school calendar that runs opposite to the first. Eduprime is hiring tutors in Singapore who can tell within a lesson which of those two students is sitting in front of them: tutors who teach subject content to HL depth, supervise coursework without writing a line of it, and read the assessment criteria the way a moderator reads them.

Why this work suits a DP specialist

  • The first months of DP2 are when a school gathers the evidence behind its predicted grades, and those grades leave the building with university applications. Weekly lessons in that window reach a long way past the term they sit in.
  • Supervising coursework is a craft of judgement — naming why a piece of work sits in one band, unpicking what a criterion is actually asking for, showing a student where their own evidence runs thin. The work stays theirs, and the skill carries into every subject you teach.
  • Singapore holds both examination sessions at once. One cohort is deep in mock papers while another is halfway through its coursework, so a full IB timetable seldom goes quiet for a whole term.
  • How much you take on stays a portfolio decision: two HL students sit comfortably beside a full-time job, while a loaded timetable turns the DP calendar into steady year-round work.
  • Families here run every curriculum on the island, and DP specialists are thinner on the ground than A-Level ones. The band reflects that — S$50 – S$120 per hour, quoted in SGD, paid on schedule.
  • Finding students, matching and following up are ours to carry. The unpaid hours in your week go into reading the subject guide and planning the next session.

The role

What the engagement actually asks of you

  • Teach at the level the student is actually sitting. HL and SL diverge in content and in the depth of response expected, and Maths AA and Maths AI are separate courses that deserve separate preparation.
  • Work backwards from the school's internal deadline, which lands well ahead of the IB's own. A student planning for the later date has already given away the drafting weeks that decide the grade.
  • Keep several internal assessments from colliding — start the ones that need data collection or fieldwork early, and hold the shorter write-ups for the weeks when the others are with the supervisor.
  • Coach an internal assessment through its stages: narrowing the research question, choosing a method that produces something analysable, and evaluating honestly against the published criteria.
  • Support Extended Essay work inside the IB's rules on academic integrity — questioning, prompting, pointing to sources, never drafting or rewriting text on the student's behalf — and leave them able to defend their own decisions at the reflection sessions and the viva voce.
  • Build TOK reasoning into subject teaching where it belongs: knowledge questions, the limits of a method, why a scientific claim and a historical claim are justified differently.
  • Drill paper technique in the closing stretch — command terms, timing across Papers 1 to 3, and the distance between an answer that describes and one that evaluates.

What we check before we match you

  • Direct experience with the IB Diploma — teaching it in a school, examining or moderating for it, or completing it yourself and tutoring it since.
  • Command of one or more DP subjects to HL standard, named specifically: Maths AA HL, Physics HL, Economics SL, English A Language and Literature, and so on.
  • Working familiarity with the current subject guide and its assessment criteria, including how the internal assessment is weighted in your subject.
  • A clear line on academic honesty. If you are not comfortable telling a stressed student that you cannot write a paragraph of their IA, this role is not for you.
  • Reliability with families: turning up, tracking progress against the school's internal deadlines, and flagging early when a student is drifting.
  • Eligible to work in Singapore, and able to travel to lessons or teach online with a stable setup.

Pay

How the rate is set

S$50 – S$120 per hour

Where you land in that band follows the subject, the level the student is sitting, and how much of the engagement is coursework supervision. Supervision is reading time as much as teaching time — a tutor who works through a full IA draft against the criteria has done an hour of work before the lesson starts, and the rate accounts for it. Rare HL combinations sit at the upper end, as does picking up a student who arrives with several assessments already overdue. Every rate is agreed in writing before the first lesson, quoted in SGD, and paid on a fixed schedule, with no deductions we did not tell you about.

How it works

From enquiry to first lesson

  1. 01

    Send us your subjects

Apply through the contact form on this site. Tell us which DP subjects you can teach, at HL or SL, and whether you have supervised internal assessments or Extended Essays before.

  2. 02

    We check the background

Our team verifies your teaching or examining history and confirms the subjects and levels you have claimed. We ask about your IB experience in enough detail that a family never has to.

  3. 03

We place you where the curriculum fits

Placement runs on curriculum fit first: an HL Physics candidate two terms from the May session needs different teaching than a DP1 student still choosing options. Area comes second, so lessons stay reachable without an island crossing.

  4. 04

    Plan around the DP calendar

The first lesson usually lands within the week. From there the engagement follows the IB's own rhythm — IA deadlines, mock windows, then the May or November session — and most families keep their tutor across the full two-year arc.

Questions

What applicants ask before they take a student

How far can I go in helping with an internal assessment or Extended Essay?

You can teach the skills, interrogate the research question, discuss method, point to sources and explain what each criterion is asking for. Drafting, rewriting or editing the student's text sits outside what any tutor may do. School supervisors already work inside tight limits — comments on a single draft — and we expect tutors to stay well within them. We set that expectation with the family before the first lesson, so it is a line you hold with our backing. A diploma voided for academic misconduct helps nobody.

The school supervisor steered the student one way and I would steer them another. Whose call stands?

The supervisor's. They sign the reflections and the school owns the submission, so a student caught between two adults loses time they do not have. Your work is to leave the student able to explain and defend the choice already made. If the research question is genuinely unworkable, help them put that case to the supervisor in their own words.

Can I tutor Maths AA and Maths AI interchangeably?

Only if you genuinely know both. They are distinct courses with different content and different exploration expectations, and a student notices quickly when AA habits are taught into an AI paper. Tell us which one you are strong in, and at which level, and we match accordingly.

Do you place tutors for TOK and the core?

Yes, though demand is thinner than for subjects. TOK carries real consequence — a failing grade in it can cost a student the diploma outright, and its combination with the Extended Essay is worth up to three points on top of the 42 available from the six subjects. If you can steer an exhibition or a prescribed-title essay, say so in your application; those tutors are hard to find and we keep working with them.

When in the year do most IB enquiries arrive?

In two waves, because Singapore's international schools split across the two examination sessions. The heavier wave gathers as a cohort moves up into DP2 and the coursework load becomes visible to parents; the other builds while a second cohort heads into its final papers. Tell us which session your experience sits in, and we match for both.

Do I need to be a current IB school teacher?

No. Classroom and examining experience counts heavily with us, and so does a former DP teacher, a subject specialist who has tutored the syllabus for years, or a graduate who sat the diploma and has taught it since. What we verify is that you know the current guide and the criteria you will be marking against.

What do lessons look like in practice?

One-to-one or small groups, at the student's home or online, anywhere in Singapore. Sessions usually run weekly across the two-year programme and tighten around submission windows and the run-up to the written papers. Coursework-heavy stretches often mean a longer session, or a second one in the week, agreed with the family in advance.
