Apply as an online Combined Science tutor
  • S$25 to S$70 per hour
  • Contract, flexible hours
  • 100% online, from where you live
Become a tutor with Eduprime Singapore

Online Combined Science tutor jobs are about helping a secondary student carry two sciences inside one subject and one grade. SEAB sets three pairings for the O-Level: Science (Physics, Chemistry) 5086, Science (Physics, Biology) 5087 and Science (Chemistry, Biology) 5088. Students taking it usually have a single weekly lesson to cover both halves, so the tutor who helps them most is the one who can see quickly which half is costing marks and plan the hour around it. We are looking for online tutors who can teach both disciplines of at least one pairing, keep the teaching inside the Combined scope, and explain a circuit, a mole calculation or a genetic cross clearly on a shared screen. You teach from home, wherever home is, to students in Singapore.

Why teach Combined Science online with Eduprime

  • You work from where you live, on a laptop and a writing tablet, with lesson hours you choose around Singapore afternoons and evenings.
  • The syllabus is fixed and well defined, so what you prepare for one student in a pairing serves the next.
  • Combined Science students often lean hard on one science and neglect the other, and a tutor who balances the two sees marks move within a term.
  • Students outside Singapore who follow the same syllabus also come to us, and as their numbers grow we may offer you learners abroad who need your pairing.
  • After you join, our team handles matching each student to you and sets up the lesson arrangements, so your time goes into teaching.

The role

What you will do

  • Split each lesson between the two sciences in the student's pairing, giving more time to the half that is losing marks.
  • Read the student's school test papers and topical worksheets to find recurring errors in definitions, working and units.
  • Keep the teaching inside the Combined Science scope, leaving out content that belongs only to the Pure syllabus.
  • Draw and annotate circuit diagrams, particle models, reaction equations, food webs and genetic diagrams live on a shared whiteboard.
  • Practise multiple-choice and structured questions, including questions built on data tables, graphs and practical set-ups.
  • Keep the agreed weekly lesson time and give the student advance notice of any change.
  • Every few weeks, write the student a short note on which practical and theory skills have improved.

What we are looking for

  • You can teach both sciences of at least one Combined Science pairing (5086, 5087 or 5088) to O-Level standard.
  • Strong A-Level or IB results in the relevant sciences, a science or engineering degree, or current undergraduate study in one.
  • A working grasp of where the Combined syllabus stops and the Pure syllabus continues.
  • Clear spoken and written English at a level suited to secondary students.
  • Previous tutoring helps, and a first-time tutor with strong science results is welcome to apply.

Hourly rate for this role

S$25 to S$70 per hour

Where you sit in the band depends on the level you teach and the experience you bring. The rate is agreed before you accept an assignment and paid on schedule.

Teaching online from where you live

This role is 100% online and taught from where you live. Online lessons are taught from outside Singapore unless you are eligible to work in Singapore. You start with students in Singapore, and as intake grows Eduprime may also offer you students from other countries. Each offer depends on learners asking for your subject and level.

Your setup

Your teaching setup

What you need

  • A computer with camera and microphone, ideally a headset, so explanations of practical questions come through clearly.
  • A writing tablet, stylus or pen display, so diagrams, equations and graphs can be drawn by hand on the shared screen.
  • A steady broadband line and a quiet corner, good for an hour of video without dropping.
  • Regular free hours that overlap Singapore weekday afternoons and evenings or weekend mornings, checked against your own time zone.

Questions

Questions from applicants

Do I need to live in Singapore?

You can teach from wherever you live. The lessons are for students on the Singapore syllabus, so what matters is your science knowledge, a reliable setup and free hours that overlap Singapore afternoons and evenings.

Can I teach only one pairing?

Yes. Tell us which pairing you cover, and we match you with students taking that one. Many tutors start with a single pairing and add another once they are confident in both of its sciences.

Which students will I teach?

Mostly upper-secondary students in Singapore preparing for O-Level Combined Science. As requests from students abroad on the same syllabus grow, we may offer you some of those students too, depending on the pairing and hours they ask for.

How much will I be paid?

Pay is hourly, from the figure printed on this page, and each student's rate and the payment arrangement are settled with you before lessons start.

Do I need tutoring experience?

Experience is welcome and it is optional. Strong results in the sciences you would teach, clear explanations and dependable attendance count for a lot, and our team briefs you on each student before you start.

How are practical skills handled online?

You teach the thinking behind the practical work: reading apparatus diagrams, planning a fair test, handling readings and uncertainties, and drawing conclusions from a table or graph. Hands-on lab work stays with the student's school.
