Online Chinese tutor jobs matter here because many Singapore students study Chinese at school while speaking English everywhere else, which leaves one lesson a week as the place where their Mandarin actually gets used. That lesson is your job. Lessons happen live on camera, with you at your own desk in whichever country you call home, for students on the MOE Chinese syllabus: Primary pupils working towards PSLE Chinese, Secondary students heading into O-Level Chinese, and some who carry Higher Chinese as well. The role
What you will do
- Teach live one-to-one Chinese lessons over video to Primary and Secondary students on the MOE syllabus.
- Rehearse the oral reading passage for tone and pacing, and coach the video-stimulus conversation until the student can keep talking.
- Train listening comprehension at natural speaking speed.
- Keep characters fresh with regular dictation and spaced review of the words each student tends to lose.
- Mark picture compositions, essays, comprehension and cloze against the MOE band descriptors, and explain each mark to the student.
- After lessons, send a short progress note in plain English to the student, and for a Primary pupil to the parent or guardian who registered them.
- Keep a steady weekly slot so the student has a fixed time to use Mandarin.
What we are looking for
- Fluent spoken Mandarin with clear standard pronunciation. This is required because students copy your tones and pacing directly for their oral exam.
- Strong written Chinese in simplified characters, with Hanyu Pinyin. This is required because the MOE papers are written and marked in simplified characters.
- Working English. This is required because many students think in English first and most messages to us arrive in English.
- Your own school-leaving Chinese results, a degree in Chinese language or education, or a record of teaching children and teenagers.
- Familiarity with the MOE Chinese syllabus, or the willingness to learn its papers and marking bands before your first lesson.
Pay
Hourly rate for this role
S$25 to S$70 per hour
Where you sit in the band depends on the level you teach and the experience you bring. The rate is agreed before you accept an assignment and paid on schedule.
Teaching online from where you live
This role is 100% online and taught from where you live. Online lessons are taught from outside Singapore unless you are eligible to work in Singapore. You start with students in Singapore, and as intake grows Eduprime may also offer you students from other countries. Each offer depends on learners asking for your subject and level.

What you need
- A computer with a working camera and a microphone that picks up tones cleanly, because a student imitating a third tone needs to hear exactly what you said.
- A digital pen tablet or a touchscreen for writing characters on a shared whiteboard, so strokes and stroke order show clearly.
- A stable broadband connection that holds a video call for a full lesson, with a quiet room to teach from.
- Free hours that line up with Singapore after-school time on weekdays (UTC+8) and with Saturday or Sunday slots in Singapore time.

Questions about teaching Chinese online
Can I teach Chinese from another country?
Yes. Every lesson is online and you give it from the country you live in. A tutor who is in Singapore gives these online lessons only while eligible to work in Singapore.
Why do you need both Mandarin and English?
Every lesson is taught in Mandarin to the MOE papers, so fluent Mandarin and simplified characters are required. Many students think in English first, and most of the messages we pass on are written in English, so working English is required too.
Which levels will I teach?
Primary and Secondary Chinese on the MOE syllabus, including PSLE and O-Level preparation. Tutors who are confident with Higher Chinese can take those students as well.
Do I need to know the Singapore syllabus already?
It helps, and it is something you can learn. Before your first lesson you should know the paper format for your level, the oral components and how compositions are banded.
Could I teach students from other countries?
Possibly. You start with students in Singapore. Learners in other countries who want Mandarin on the Singapore syllabus also reach Eduprime, and when they ask for your level and hours we may offer them to you.
How are lesson times set?
Lesson times are set in Singapore time and agreed with you before the first lesson. Most students ask for weekday evenings and weekends, and we keep the same weekly slot once it is agreed.
