Become a tutor with Eduprime Singapore

Online Social Studies tutor jobs at Eduprime centre on the half of Combined Humanities that every Upper Secondary student in Singapore sits, whichever elective they pair it with, a paper that rewards two skills that grow fastest with a patient reader beside the student: weighing a source for what it can actually support, and holding one clear position through a full written answer. This role puts you in that seat online. You meet students in a live video lesson, put the extract on a shared screen, work through it line by line, and mark their written answers so they see exactly where a point lands and where it drifts. You teach from wherever you live, and your students follow the MOE syllabus their school sets.

Why teach Social Studies with Eduprime

  • The subject is compulsory in Combined Humanities, so Upper Secondary students look for help with it every year, from the first source questions in Secondary 3 to the final timed papers.
  • The work is reading and reasoning, which carries well over video: an extract on a shared screen, annotated together, teaches provenance and inference as clearly as a printed page.
  • You keep a timetable built around your own location, with lessons placed in Singapore evenings and weekends that you choose to open.
  • As more students come to Eduprime, you may be offered further matches, including learners outside Singapore who want humanities and essay coaching; each offer depends on a student asking for your subject and level.
  • You join a team that screens tutors, keeps students informed and handles scheduling, so your lesson time goes into teaching.

The role

What you will do

  • Plan each lesson around the student's current school topic and the demands of the elective paired with Social Studies that term.
  • Teach source-based case study technique: drawing inferences, comparing two extracts, and judging reliability or usefulness from provenance and content together.
  • Coach structured-response answers that state a stand early and support it with developed examples.
  • Mark photographed or scanned scripts in writing and return them before the next lesson.
  • Handle the syllabus issues of citizenship and governance, diversity in society, and life in a globalised world even-handedly, keeping every argument tied to evidence.
  • Run timed practice as the written papers approach and log each lesson so the student can follow their own progress.

What we look for

  • A strong result of your own in Social Studies or Combined Humanities at O-Level or an equivalent secondary humanities examination, or degree-level study in history, geography, political science, sociology, public policy, law or literature.
  • Working knowledge of the MOE Upper Secondary Social Studies syllabus, or the readiness to master it from the SEAB syllabus document before your first lesson.
  • Clear written English, strong enough to write a complete model answer at lesson pace.
  • Calm, balanced handling of social and civic topics with teenage students.
  • Reliable attendance and punctual starts in Singapore time.

This role is 100% online and taught from where you live. Online lessons are taught from outside Singapore unless you are eligible to work in Singapore. You start with students in Singapore, and as intake grows Eduprime may also offer you students from other countries. Each offer depends on learners asking for your subject and level.

Questions

Questions from applicants

Do I need to live in Singapore to take this role?

From your own home, anywhere with a reliable connection and hours that overlap with Singapore evenings. Lessons are taught from outside Singapore unless you are eligible to work in Singapore; a tutor visiting without that eligibility pauses lessons until the trip is over.

I studied outside Singapore. Can I still teach Social Studies?

Yes, provided you know the syllabus well. Social Studies draws heavily on Singapore's own context and case studies, so read the SEAB syllabus, work through recent source-based questions, and be ready to show that familiarity at screening.

How do students hand in written work?

Students write by hand as they will in the examination, then photograph or scan the script. You mark it in writing on screen and go through the key corrections at the start of the next lesson.

When do lessons usually take place?

Most Secondary students are free on weekday evenings and weekend daytime in Singapore time (UTC+8). Open whichever of those hours are comfortable where you live, and we only offer you students whose times fit them.

Could I teach students from other countries as well?

Singapore-syllabus students come first. As Eduprime's intake widens, learners elsewhere who want humanities, source analysis or essay coaching may be offered to you, and every offer starts with a student requesting your subject and level.

How should I handle sensitive social or political topics?

Teach them the way the syllabus frames them: present the range of views, keep the discussion anchored in the sources and examples in front of the student, and help the student build their own reasoned position.

Where can I see the pay for this role?

The hourly band appears on this page and in the job listing, and your rate for each new student is settled with you when we match you.
