The role
What you will do
- Read the student's own marked essays and comprehension scripts in the first lesson and name where the marks are going: the reasoning, the evidence or the sentences.
- Coach Paper 1 essay planning live on screen, from reading the question's scope words to committing to a stand the student can hold for a whole essay.
- Run timed Paper 2 practice on shared passages, covering inference, vocabulary in context, the summary, the comparison task and the Application Question.
- Keep a shared issue file with the student on current affairs in Singapore and abroad, so each claim has evidence behind it when a follow-up question comes.
- Mark essays set between lessons against the band descriptors and return them with the content mark and the language mark kept apart, plus edits the student can act on.
- Write each student a short progress note after every block of lessons.
What we look for
- Strong written English of your own, and the reading habit of someone who follows Singapore, regional and world news.
- A good General Paper result of your own, or a degree in a humanities, social science, law or journalism discipline.
- At least a year of teaching, tutoring or marking argumentative writing for students aged sixteen and above.
- Working knowledge of the current A-Level General Paper syllabus, or the readiness to study it and its specimen papers before your first lesson.
- Online lessons are taught from outside Singapore unless you are eligible to work in Singapore. Serving MOE teachers need MOE approval before taking paid tuition.
Pay
Hourly rate for this role
S$35 to S$90 per hour
Where you sit in the band depends on the level you teach and the experience you bring. The rate is agreed before you accept an assignment and paid on schedule.
Teaching online from where you live
This role is 100% online and taught from where you live. Online lessons are taught from outside Singapore unless you are eligible to work in Singapore. You start with students in Singapore, and as intake grows Eduprime may also offer you students from other countries. Each offer depends on learners asking for your subject and level.

What you need
- A laptop or desktop with a webcam, and a headset that carries your voice cleanly through a whole essay discussion.
- A way to annotate a student's script on screen, such as a tablet with a stylus or comment tools in a shared document, so marking happens where the student can see it.
- A stable broadband connection that holds a video call and screen share together for an hour or more.
- Time available during Singapore weekday evenings and weekends, which run on Singapore time (UTC+8), so check the overlap with your own time zone before you choose your slots.

Which students will I teach?

I live outside Singapore. Can I apply?
Yes. This role is taught entirely online from where you live. Online lessons are taught from outside Singapore unless you are eligible to work in Singapore, so lessons pause while you are visiting Singapore if you hold no pass for this work.
How do I keep up with Singapore current affairs from abroad?

You are paid per teaching hour within the band shown on this page, in Singapore dollars. Where you sit in the band depends on your General Paper experience and the level you teach.
