Become a tutor with Eduprime Singapore

Online Literature tutor jobs at Eduprime begin with a Singapore subject where a student can know the set text well and still lose marks, because the paper rewards an argument built from evidence and written under time. That is the gap an online Literature tutor closes. You meet one student at a time over video, read a passage together on a shared document, and work out why a writer chose a particular word, image or line break. Then you turn that reading into an essay the student can plan and write inside the time the paper allows. Your students follow the SEAB syllabuses used in Singapore schools, from lower secondary Literature through O-Level to H1 and H2 at junior college, and they sit their papers by hand, so much of your marking happens on photographed scripts. You teach from home, wherever home is, in hours that match the late afternoons, evenings and weekend mornings Singapore students keep free for study.

Why teach Literature online with Eduprime

  • Teach from where you live. Every lesson runs over video, so your city and country stay your own choice.
  • Students with texts to argue about. Upper secondary and JC Literature students arrive with set texts, opinions and an exam that rewards both.
  • One reader at a time. Each lesson follows one student's essays, so you watch an argument sharpen across a term and see the redrafts that did it.
  • Hours you choose. You offer the weekly slots that suit you, placed where Singapore students study after school.
  • Room to widen your teaching. As learners in other countries ask for Literature at the level you teach, Eduprime may offer you those students as well.

The role

What you will do

  • Teach one-to-one Literature lessons over live video at times agreed with each student in Singapore time.
  • Read prose, poetry and drama closely with the student on a shared annotated text, treating each detail as an authorial choice.
  • Build quotation banks for the student's set texts, organised by theme, character and technique, so evidence comes to mind under exam pressure.
  • Rehearse the unseen prose and poetry response against the clock until the student can plan and write inside the time allowed.
  • Teach essay structure from thesis to embedded quotation, and model a paragraph live when a student is stuck.
  • Mark typed or photographed essays against the syllabus assessment objectives and set one clear redraft target each time.
  • Write each student a brief note on progress and the next essay they are working towards.

What we look for

  • A bachelor degree in English Literature, English, comparative literature or a related humanities subject.
  • At least a year of teaching literature or essay writing, whether in a school, a university seminar or private tutoring, anywhere in the world.
  • Written English precise enough to model a timed exam essay and explain every choice inside it.
  • Confidence with unseen prose and poetry, and the patience to let a student reach a reading before you offer yours.
  • Readiness to study the SEAB Literature papers and their assessment objectives before you teach them.

Teaching online from where you live

This role is 100% online and taught from where you live. Online lessons are taught from outside Singapore unless you are eligible to work in Singapore. You start with students in Singapore, and as intake grows Eduprime may also offer you students from other countries. Each offer depends on learners asking for your subject and level.

Your setup

Your teaching setup

What you need

  • A computer with a webcam and headset that can show a video call and a shared document side by side.
  • A way to annotate on screen, such as a tablet with a stylus or a PDF editor, so you can mark up a poem or a photographed essay live.
  • A broadband line steady enough that an hour of close reading never freezes mid-sentence.
  • A regular weekly window in Singapore time (UTC+8), late afternoon into evening on school days, with weekend mornings as a bonus.

Questions

Questions from Literature tutors

Do I need to live in Singapore?

You can live anywhere with a reliable connection. Online lessons are taught from outside Singapore unless you are eligible to work in Singapore.

Which levels and syllabuses will I teach?

Students follow the Singapore syllabuses: lower secondary Literature, O-Level Literature in English (2065), the Literature component of Humanities (2262), and H1 (8841) or H2 (9539) Literature at junior college. You choose the levels you are ready to teach.

What if I have never taught the student's set text?

Set texts vary by school and exam year, so reading the student's text before the first lesson is part of the preparation. Each request tells you the level and syllabus, and you can ask the student for the text list before you accept.

How do students hand in essays online?

Students sit their papers by hand, so many will photograph handwritten essays. Others type into a shared document. Either way you mark on screen and return feedback with one redraft target.

When do lessons usually happen?

Most requests fall on Singapore weekday evenings after school and on weekend mornings. You set the weekly slots you can offer, and we match you only within them.

Will I teach students outside Singapore?

You start with students in Singapore. Eduprime also hears from students in other countries who follow a Singapore or English-medium syllabus, and when one of them asks for Literature at your level, that student may be offered to you.

Where do I see the pay?

You will find the hourly band printed on this page. Each lesson request shows its level and schedule before you accept it.
