Apply as an online Tamil tutor- S$25 to S$70 per hour
- Contract, flexible hours
- 100% online, from where you live

Online Tamil tutor jobs with Eduprime connect you with Singapore students who take Tamil, one of the nation's four official languages, as their Mother Tongue in school. Many of them speak some Tamil at home and English everywhere else, so the hard part of the subject is the formal written language: the case endings that everyday speech drops, the joins between words, the vocabulary a composition is marked on, and the clear reading voice the oral exam listens for. We are hiring Tamil tutors who can teach that gap online. You teach from home, wherever home is, over a video lesson with one student at a time. The students follow the Singapore MOE syllabus and sit the SEAB papers, from PSLE Tamil and Foundation Tamil through O-Level Tamil, Higher Tamil and Tamil B, up to Tamil at A-Level. You plan each lesson around the paper your student will actually sit, and you become the steady Tamil voice that student hears every week.
Why teach Tamil with Eduprime
- Lessons run from your own home, wherever that is, on a weekly timetable settled with each student before the first lesson.
- Every lesson is one-to-one, so you can slow down on sandhi for one learner and push another through timed composition practice.
- The syllabus is clear and published: SEAB sets out each Tamil paper by level, so you always know what your student is working towards.
- We handle the matching with students and you handle the teaching, with your level and time zone taken into account for every match.
- As our intake grows beyond Singapore, learners in other countries who study Tamil may also be offered your lessons.
The role
What you will do
- Plan each lesson against the exact Tamil paper your student sits, from PSLE Foundation Tamil to A-Level.
- Teach composition planning, formal vocabulary and sentence structure, then have the student write under a time limit.
- Work through language use and comprehension questions line by line, explaining the grammar behind each correct answer.
- Rehearse the oral exam: reading a passage aloud with clear retroflex and dental sounds, and holding a conversation on a picture, video clip or topic.
- Mark written work sent between lessons and return corrections the student can use in the next attempt.
- Write Tamil script live on screen so the student sees each letter, ending and join as you explain it.
- A short note after every lesson tells each student what was covered and what to practise, with a copy to whoever registered a primary pupil.
What we look for
- Fluent written and spoken Tamil in the formal register, because Tamil is the subject you teach and the SEAB papers are marked on formal written Tamil.
- Working English, because Singapore students learn their other subjects in English and many ask their questions in it.
- The ability to write a model composition and correct a student's draft during the lesson.
- Familiarity with the Singapore MOE Tamil syllabus, or the willingness to study the SEAB syllabus for your levels before your first lesson.
- A weekly slot you can keep through a full Singapore school term.
- Prior teaching or tutoring experience helps, and fresh tutors with strong Tamil are welcome to apply.

Teaching online from where you live
This role is 100% online and taught from where you live. Online lessons are taught from outside Singapore unless you are eligible to work in Singapore. You start with students in Singapore, and as intake grows Eduprime may also offer you students from other countries. Each offer depends on learners asking for your subject and level.

- A stable internet connection that holds a full video lesson without dropping.
- Availability during Singapore evenings and weekends (UTC+8). A 7pm Singapore lesson starts at 4.30pm in India and Sri Lanka and at 7pm in Malaysia.

Questions
Questions from Tamil tutors
I live outside Singapore. Can I apply?
Yes. This role is taught 100% online from where you live, in any country with a reliable connection. If you live in Singapore, you need to be a citizen, a permanent resident or the holder of a pass that allows this work.
Why is English required when I will be teaching Tamil?
Singapore students learn most of their school subjects in English, so many of them ask questions and understand grammar explanations more quickly in English. Lesson notes in English help them revise, and help the parents of younger pupils follow along. The lessons themselves are taught in Tamil.
My Tamil was learnt in India, Sri Lanka or Malaysia. Will it fit the Singapore papers?
Formal written Tamil is shared across Tamil-speaking communities, so a strong writer from any of these places has the core of what the papers test. What you add is the Singapore setting: the format of each SEAB paper and composition topics drawn from life in Singapore. Read the SEAB syllabus for your levels before you begin.
How do I show Tamil script during an online lesson?
You can write on a tablet with a stylus or on a digital pen pad shared on screen, so the student watches each letter and vowel sign form. A camera pointed at paper also works. A Tamil keyboard on your computer helps for typed vocabulary lists and corrections.
When do lessons usually happen?
Lessons are arranged after school on weekdays and at weekends, Singapore time, around each student's timetable. For tutors in India and Sri Lanka a weekday evening slot in Singapore falls in the late afternoon, and tutors in Malaysia share Singapore's clock.
Could I teach students from outside Singapore too?
That is a real opportunity as our intake grows. Students abroad who learn Tamil may be offered your lessons, and each offer comes when a learner asks for your level and your hours.
What happens after I submit my application?
You create your educator account in our educator app, which holds your profile, levels and timetable. From there we match you with students as they ask for Tamil at your level.
